Garrison Brothers Balmorhea Texas Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Texas, USA
Reviewed October 17, 2021 (edited September 24, 2022)This pours dark and rich mahogany. You can almost tell what you are in for by simply looking at the glass. The first sip is cedar and walnut. There's a syrupy caramel that binds the wood tangs together. The proof is present throughout but is never overpowering. There is also a leather and tobacco flavor in every sip. The finish is a menthol, medicinal slow burn. Overall, this screams American whiskey while being unlike bourbon. Drinking this makes me feel like I'm wearing wranglers next to an old horse saddle with a wad of chew stuffed in my cheek. There's a lot going on here but I see no need to ever restock a bottle at around $180. -
Willett Pot Still Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 9, 2021 (edited October 11, 2021)Caramel, light pepper, and oak. Dry finish. Easy drinker. Nothing special. -
It drinks like a Japanese whiskey with very soft, flowery grain and cereal notes. Lots of toffee and melted vanilla ice cream. Banana dipped in honey. The finish is very slight oak, coconut, and ginger but nothing special. Exhale the finish and there's something really off. Overall, it's not a bad sip if you're looking for a very mellow, sweet easy drinker. The first half of a sip is pretty good, the second half is pretty bad.

High West Double Rye
Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed September 26, 2021 (edited September 27, 2021)The nose screams it will be hot but it's suprisingly mellow at first. It's heavy on clove and mint with a very spicy cinnamon and pepper finish. The middle is a spicy wood bite and a rich leather and hint of pine. Overall, it's simple but it's pretty good. The lack of anything in the first phase of each sip is kind of strange. Is my palate off? -
Redbreast 12 Year Cask Strength
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed July 30, 2021 (edited February 6, 2022)Really good stuff. There's honey, apple cider, and vanilla. A thicker creamy butter rolls up. The sherry is noticable but comes across a bit different than expected. It's more of a cherry and plum hit, rather than the brighter berries. Oak and hot cinnamon creep in and are met with a pepper finish. It's short but enjoyable. Less bright apple and light cereal than most Irish I've had; there's a fullness, richness, and boldness throughout that is very welcoming. This is worth the $90 to buy again.
