Old Pulteney 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 5, 2017 (edited September 14, 2017)This is one of the easiest drinking whiskeys I have ever tasted! Nothing that will overwhelm you but consistently very good! I got orchard fruit on the nose, most notably apples and pears. The nose taste was consistent with the nose with a very noticeable apple note. There was no smoke or peat to speak of, however I did get just a small amount of brine and seawater. Over all a very pleasant dram. -
It took me a few drama to warm up to this...but I think I'm there! The finish isn't quite as smooth as some whisky in the same age range but there is lots of character there. I get orchard fruit on the nose, apples and pears. The initial drink is sweet, no smoke or peat to speak of. Followed by Apple and honey. For a 15yo in the $50-60 price range there is plenty of bang for the buck!

Benrinnes 15 Year Flora & Fauna
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed August 6, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)15-21yo whisky is my wheel house! It is the age range I seem to enjoy the most. This Benrinnes 15yo is excellent IMO. I think it offers everything you could expect in a scotch. There are elements of smoke, peat, and sweetness the seem to balance each other perfectly! This a rich, flavor full whisky that is a bit hard to come by in the states. If you have the opportunity to sample or buy a bottle I would be surprised if you were disappointed. -
Blanton's Original Single Barrel
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 14, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)So I don't get much in the way of smoke. There is a red fruit note that I would say is very dark cherry. There is a sweetness of honey and vanilla on the nose. It don't seem to be very complex in the beginning but every sip seems to bring something new! Very nice whiskey in my opinion! Glad I picked up two!
