The nose has faint mesquite smoke, with green bell peppers, cantaloupe, wet limestone and cotton candy. Surprisingly heavy-bodied mouthfeel. The palate is earthy but muted and very easy-drinking, with the vegetal sweetness of agave, light smoke, wet stone, a very faint citrus note, and charred sugar like the burnt exterior of a campfire marshmallow. The finish is fairly short, dominated by the agave, light smoke and wet stone. Nothing challenging here, but very enjoyable.35.0 USD per Bottle

Very floral and herbaceous nose with lots of lavender, rosemary and juniper, and hints of pine, grated ginger, ground cardamom and ground coriander. The palate is a melange of floral, sweet and spice, with lavender, pine and juniper up front, developing into candied ginger and candied orange peel, then dry ginger, lemongrass and white pepper. The finish is fairly short, with lingering notes of lavender, candied orange peel, lemon zest and lemongrass. I'm not a huge gin fan, but even for me this is a sipper that you spend some time with and experience the developing complexities.36.0 USD per Bottle

Rebel Yell Kentucky Straight Bourbon 100 Proof
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 7, 2021 (edited October 28, 2021)Light amber color. The mouthfeel is light, almost effervescent making it incredibly easy to drink. The nose and palate are fairly standard with a lot of vanilla, caramel and cinnamon. There is a little peanut brittle on the nose that I don't get on the palate. The cinnamon on the nose is more cinnamon stick, that transitions to cinnamon chewing gum on the palate, and back to cinnamon stick on the finish. The finish is relatively short, but it doesn't really matter. At this price point, this is a damn good, crushable pour.23.0 USD per Bottle -
Hampden Estate Great House (Distillery Edition 2020)
Aged Rum — Jamaica
Reviewed September 26, 2021 (edited September 2, 2023)Deep copper color. The nose has an array of tropical fruits with mango, papaya, pineapple, roasted plantains, along with banana taffy, pine needles, vanilla bean and salted caramel. The mouthfeel is heavy and hot. The palate is a continuation of the tropical fruit on the nose, along with a significant amount of toasted oak, cinnamon, nutmeg, toffee, cocoa powder, white pepper and sea salt, with faint notes of charcoal, turpentine and gasoline. The finish is long and hot, more tropical fruits and baking spices, promenant lingering notes of over-ripe bananas, cinnamon, vanilla bean, toasted oak, with notes of sea salt and gasoline that rise to the forefront as the other notes fade. Compared to the 8yr overproof, the proof is lower but this feels hotter. The tasting notes are similar, but this excites the palate a bit more. I'm getting somehow even more depth and complexity on this than the 8yr overproof or the Habitation Velier 10yr. I would definitely choose this Great House over the more expensive HV pick. Is it worth roughly 30% more $ than the standard 8yr overproof? Well, I know where I can get one more bottle of this, and I'm trying to come up with an excuse to tell my wife for making the trip.90.0 USD per Bottle -
Hampden Estate LROK 10 Year (Habitation Velier)
Aged Rum — Jamaica
Reviewed September 10, 2021 (edited September 12, 2021)Rich amber color. The nose has ripe bananas, vanilla bean, allspice, mango, pineapple, dried durian fruit, clarified butter, and a hint of cigar ash. Velvety mouthfeel. The palate has Bananas Foster (seared bananas, vanilla ice cream, caramel), mango, papaya, muscadine grapes, toasted cinnamon stick, toasted oak, white pepper, hints of black tea, grated ginger and menthol, with faint gasoline. The finish is long and hot, mildly drying with lingering tropical fruit and muscadine grapes, burnt sugar and toasted oak, a hint of coffee grounds, with subtle gasoline that grows in prominence as the other notes slowly fade. This is excellent, but beyond being mildly sweeter and having more oak influence it doesn't distinguish itself from the standard 8-year old overproof that's roughly half the price.125.0 USD per Bottle -
Chairman's Reserve 13 Year Master's Selection
Aged Rum — St. Lucia, Saint Lucia
Reviewed August 13, 2021 (edited September 10, 2022)Gordon's Private Barrel 13 years old 50% John Dore 1 & 50% Vendome Ex-Bourbon 56.3% ABV Ruddy copper color. The nose is like a musty bourbon with lots of vanilla, caramel creams candy, ginger bread, cinnamon raisin oatmeal, and an old wooden wardrobe laden with mothballs. Heavy, syrupy mouthfeel. The palate has more vanilla bean and caramel candy up front, followed by a green grassy note, and ending with mild notes of medicinal honey, mothballs and gasoline. The finish is medium-long and dry with lots of oak and hints of vanilla extract, allspice, medicinal honey and gasoline. An ice cube really opens it up and softens some of the harsher notes, making it very enjoyable.55.0 USD per BottleGordon's Fine Wines and Liquors -

The nose has roasted peanuts, leather, cherry cough drops, and burnt sugar. Full-bodied mouthfeel. More roasted peanuts on the palate, along with cherry pie a la mode (think cherry pie filling, buttery pie crust, and melting vanilla ice cream), with notes of black pepper, raw cinnamon stick, nutmeg, a hint of bubble gum and a good amount of oak. The finish is medium-long and hot, the peanuts are the first thing you notice and the last thing that leaves you, with more baking spices and oak popping up along the way.60.0 USD per BottleCity Liquors -
Sipping neat, on the nose I get banana taffy, ripe mango and papaya, cardamom-infused sugar syrup, coconut flesh and faint cantaloupe. On the palate, the tropical fruit melange is in the forefront, with hints of orange zest, sea salt and white pepper, and a faint mingling of an herbal/grassy note with gasoline. The finish is long and dry, with over-ripe bananas and tropical fruits somewhat masking the grassy gasoline note. This may not be a nightly sipper but I find it easy to drink neat and look forward to trying it in some cocktails.26.0 USD per BottleLiquor Junction

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch B521
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 17, 2021 (edited August 12, 2021)Deep copper color. The nose has maraschino cherry syrup, unlit cigar, vanilla bean, cinnamon stick and a heavy dose of sweet oak. Rich, velvety mouthfeel. The palate is a cherry bomb with a blast of maraschino cherry syrup up front, then more dark fruits including dark cherries and plums, followed by vanilla bean, charred cinnamon stick and a hint of cinnamon apples, fresh ground nutmeg, pipe tobacco, roasted peanuts, leather and oak. The finish is long, hot, dry and peppery with a lot of oak and baking spices, a little vanilla and caramel, and a hint of ground coffee. I know this is low proof for an ECBP, but this is beautiful and layered, and one of my favorites of their recent releases.68.0 USD per BottleCity Liquors
