New Riff 4 Year Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 16, 2022 (edited March 21, 2023)Barrel 8842 107.2 proof Deep copper color. The nose has a lot of caramel, vanilla ice cream and Red Hots cinnamon candy, along with baked bread and a hint of chocolate-peppermint candy. Dense, slightly oily mouthfeel. The palate has more of that vanilla ice cream with salted caramel drizzle, with charred cinnamon stick, ground nutmeg, black pepper and a good amount of sweet oak. The finish is medium-long and heavy on the vanilla ice cream, baking spices and sweet oak. This is excellent and totally crushable, and I wish I had another bottle.53.0 USD per Bottle -
Caramel color. On the nose I get cinnamon and vanilla, banana taffy, cola and a fainter note of root beer. On the palate, banana nut bread, brown sugar, cigar ash, cinnamon toothpicks, white pepper, and a hint of sea salt. More banana nut bread on the finish, along with some salted caramel, cinnamon toothpicks and young oak.49.0 USD per Bottle

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch B522
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed August 12, 2022 (edited September 26, 2023)Mahogany color. The nose is sweet and dominated by maraschino cherry syrup, along with a little ground walnut, brown sugar, and honey. Rich, full-bodied, slightly oily mouthfeel. The palate is not as one-dimensional as the nose, with notes of butterscotch, bittersweet chocolate, walnuts, burnt cinnamon stick, ground nutmeg, leather and a lot of sweet oak. The finish is long, hot and dry, with more butterscotch, burnt cinnamon stick, faint cherries and oak. Overall, a fine expression. The nose is deceptively sweet, while the liquid itself drinks hotter than the proof and packs a real punch.65.0 USD per Bottle -
On the nose I get dark molasses, caramelized bananas, allspice, papaya and dusty attic. The mouthfeel is not watery by any measure, but is not as viscous as I would expect from a 15 year old cask strength rum. The palate is loaded with ripe mango, papaya, and passion fruit, along with burnt sugar, lime zest, grated ginger, allspice, star anise and lemongrass. The finish is medium-long, hot and dry, lead by the passion fruit, star anise, and baking spices, with a faint note of something like motor oil.139.0 USD per Bottle

The nose is an intense tropical fruit medley, with over-ripe banana, ripe mango, papaya, pineapple, and the sweet juice syrup in a can of fruit cocktail, along with hints of vanilla and something like lemon-scented furniture polish. The mouthfeel is heavy and viscous. On the palate I get caramelized plaintain, mango, lightly salted banana chips, dried durien fruit, pineapple juice, and faint notes of almond butter and cigar ash. The finish is long and hot, with more of the tropical fruit cocktail and a hint of truffles, and fainter, thankfully fleeting notes of acetone and furniture varnish. This would not be a nightly sipper for me, but very good and very intense.40.0 USD per Bottle

Deep amber color. Not a lot on the nose, mostly caramel and cola, maybe a little cinnamon and dark cherry. Very light mouthfeel, somewhat effervescent. The palate has more caramel, molasses, flat cola, grape candy, rye bread, with a little vanilla, coffee, cinnamon and allspice. The finish is short-to-medium in length with a nice spice heat that lingers on the front of the tongue, driven by some caramel, artificial grape flavor and baking spices. This bottle was a gift and not something I would reach for typically, but it is pleasant and very easy to drink.
