Knob Creek 9 Year Single Barrel Reserve
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 10, 2021 (edited August 13, 2021)City Liquors Private Selection Barrel #1 "The Comeback" Warehouse 1 Floor 3 Rick 58 Barreled 6/15/11 Selected 1/5/21 Deep copper color. The nose has roasted peanuts, leather, cherry cough drops, and burnt sugar. Full-bodied mouthfeel. More roasted peanuts on the palate, along with cherry pie a la mode (think cherry pie filling, buttery pie crust, and melting vanilla ice cream), with notes of black pepper, raw cinnamon stick, nutmeg, a hint of bubble gum and a good amount of oak. The finish is medium-long and hot, the peanuts are the first thing you notice and the last thing that leaves you, with more baking spices and oak popping up along the way.60.0 USD per BottleCity Liquors -
Sipping neat, on the nose I get banana taffy, ripe mango and papaya, cardamom-infused sugar syrup, coconut flesh and faint cantaloupe. On the palate, the tropical fruit melange is in the forefront, with hints of orange zest, sea salt and white pepper, and a faint mingling of an herbal/grassy note with gasoline. The finish is long and dry, with over-ripe bananas and tropical fruits somewhat masking the grassy gasoline note. This may not be a nightly sipper but I find it easy to drink neat and look forward to trying it in some cocktails.26.0 USD per BottleLiquor Junction

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch B521
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 17, 2021 (edited August 12, 2021)Deep copper color. The nose has maraschino cherry syrup, unlit cigar, vanilla bean, cinnamon stick and a heavy dose of sweet oak. Rich, velvety mouthfeel. The palate is a cherry bomb with a blast of maraschino cherry syrup up front, then more dark fruits including dark cherries and plums, followed by vanilla bean, charred cinnamon stick and a hint of cinnamon apples, fresh ground nutmeg, pipe tobacco, roasted peanuts, leather and oak. The finish is long, hot, dry and peppery with a lot of oak and baking spices, a little vanilla and caramel, and a hint of ground coffee. I know this is low proof for an ECBP, but this is beautiful and layered, and one of my favorites of their recent releases.68.0 USD per BottleCity Liquors -
Old Ezra 7 Year Barrel Strength Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 18, 2021 (edited September 3, 2021)Deep copper color. The nose has caramel chew candy, powdered sugar, vanilla frosting, and a citrus note like orange marmalade and maybe even tangerine. Full-bodied mouthfeel. The palate has typical bourbon notes of vanilla and caramel, cherry cola, ground cinnamon, white pepper, faint notes of roasted peanuts, toasted grains and buttery pie crust, and a lot of oak. The finish is medium-long and dry, dominated by the oak with subtle notes of roasted peanuts and baking spices. A solid pour, but not exceptional for the price.60.0 USD per BottleLiquor Junction -

Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series 2021 FAE-01
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 14, 2021 (edited September 6, 2021)Deep copper color. The nose has dried cinnamon apple crisps, vanilla bean, dried figs, orange zest, lemon drop candy and sweet oak. Creamy mouthfeel with a good amount of heat. The palate has a heavy dose of sweet oak, with red apple peel, charred cinnamon stick, brown sugar caramelized over ripe plums, and a noticeable sea salt note at the back end that creates a nicely balanced sweet and savory character. The finish is long and warm, lots of oak, with more dark fruits and salted caramel. This is lovely, possibly less pure enjoyment than the SE4-PR5 release but much more depth and character. Maker's Mark has really knocked it out of the park with their last two Wood Finishing Series releases.79.0 USD per BottleCharles Street Liquors -
Wilderness Trail Settlers Select Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye
Rye — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed May 28, 2021 (edited March 19, 2022)Barrel 16B21U 51.5% ABV 103 proof Copper color. The nose has bubble gum, allspice, ground cinnamon, honey, faint anise and green tea. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied and hot. The palate has buckwheat honey, nutmeg, rye grass, spearmint leaf, cumin seed, and anise. The finish is long and dry, with raw cinnamon stick, fresh cut grass, and anise. Compares favorably with a Willett 4yr, but just a bit too much anise for me. Note: I tried this in a 50/50 bourye blend with the Wilderness Trail single barrel BiB bourbon and it is excellent. The bourbon seems to tame the spice of the rye, especially the anise note, while the baking spices shine and act to amplify the sweetness of the bourbon.49.0 USD per BottleLiquor Junction -
Wilderness Trail Bottled in Bond Single Barrel Bourbon (Wheated Bourbon)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 28, 2021 (edited May 30, 2021)Barrel 16F21L Copper color. The nose has heavy vanilla, butter pecans, toasted oats, and cinnamon graham crackers. Mouthfeel is thin but not watery. The palate is grain forward and youthful with notes of oat bran, buttered toast and green oak, with hints of roasted cashew nuts, cinnamon-flavored toothpicks, and vanilla. The finish is medium-long and mildly astringent, lingering notes of raw oak, oat bran, cinnamon toothpicks and faint vanilla. The nose is warm and inviting but the youth shows on the palate and finish.47.0 USD per BottleLiquor Junction -
Neisson Rhum Agricole Le Rhum Vieux par Neisson
Rhum Agricole Vieux — Martinique
Reviewed May 23, 2021 (edited May 11, 2023)Private Barrel selection for Ball Square Fine Wines Barrel 02-23-2015 57% ABV 114 proof Aged 41 months in French Limousin Deep amber color. The nose has bubbling sugar, vanilla bean, cookie dough, orange zest and the musty interior of a long-forgotten cedar chest. Syrupy mouthfeel. The palate is layered with vanilla and salted caramel up front, then a blast of umami with toasted sesame oil and truffles, and ending with something like rubber cement glue poured over a pile of rotting collard greens. The finish is long - too damn long. The gluey rotting vegetable note really stays with you, along with fainter notes of truffles and over-ripe bananas. Every swallow induces a mild gag reflex. I'll give this points for a lovely nose and for being possibly the most complex and challenging libation I've ever tried. Unfortunately, it is too challenging for me. I was naive to think that since I enjoy the funk of Jamaican rums I could dive straight into the deep end of agricole. Indeed, I was mistaken. My palate needs to mature significantly before I can potentially find this even remotely enjoyable.60.0 USD per BottleBall Square Fine Wines -
