Color: dark gold...moderate legs Nose: smoke, iodine, and Sherry shout out a greeting Palate: strong smoke & peat flood the senses, then a brief sweetness or floral appears...then it's stomped out again. Finish: bitter smoke and strong peat lasts quite a long time. I can sense I am dealing with a fairly mature scotch, but this peaty smoke monster drowns out all other flavors for me...3.9

Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed October 8, 2016 (edited February 14, 2018)Color: autumn gold. In a Glencairn glass, 43% ABV coats the glass with long legs. Nose: heavenly vanilla syrup, nutmeg, citrus fruit, sweet rum notes Palate: smooth on first sip...big vanilla/ caramel, bourbon & rum, spice & citrus notes. Finish: mmmm....smooth citrus notes come last ...medium lasting warms the throat. Overall... My favorite Scotch...Perfect combo of the bourbon oak & sweet dark rum added to the flavor profile but not allowed to dominate the fine 14 yr old scotch. 4.8 stars! Balvenie really crafts the perfect dram for my tastes, and I'm very pleased it's a permanent addition to the Balvenie lineup! Awesome anytime scotch. -
Color: hay Despite 50% ABV, no legs in Glencairn glass. Opaque teal squat bottle is unique. Nose: busy..lots going on here. Salty, fruity, moderate sweetness come across for me. Palate: strong alcohol, rich sweet fruit & malt with some burn on first sip. A few drops of water calms the alcohol a bit, but there's a slight bitterness with the phenolic note. Finish: long & warm Overall...1.5 stars. Disappointed the vanilla I wanted just wasn't there, and the salt overwhelmed the other fruit flavor notes... I sure wouldn't want my morning peaches salted...lol. I won't replace this one when it's gone. Bummer...

Color: copper gold...moderate legs at 43% ABV...bulbous top clear bottle is said to mimic their stills...Bottle also has a compass star imprint on the bottom...a nice visual touch. Nose: nice lemony citrus, vanilla, fresh and spices on the nose...very pleasant! Palate: strong on first sip, then mellows ...fairly interesting...it does have a nice creamy feel. I get soft honey, some very slight oak char bitter, a nut or nutmeg spice, vanilla, and a faint smokey note. That's quite a lot for a 12 yr old expression that only cost me $39 ! Finish: Nice warming medium length finish, and yup I do get the light salty tang at the end... This bourbon cask matured Coastal Highlander has a lot going for it...3.9.a keeper in my lineup!
