Copper & Kings the moons of juniper gin
Distilled Gin — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 8, 2019 (edited June 13, 2023)Nose is juniper and sage, sweet honey floral. Dry cardamom and spice explodes on the tongue, with some honey sweetness. Juniper and wood and allspice follows, then spicy nettles and juniper and wood on the finish. Thick viscous mouthfeel. Not what I was expecting at first taste, but it has grown on me. Most unusual flavor profile, more akin to St George Terroir than others (I say that as a GOOD thing). You'll either love or hate it, but let it grow on you for a few drinks before deciding. Used it first in a Negroni, but it really shines in a DeVoto Martini. -
Old Ezra 7 Year Barrel Strength Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 25, 2019 (edited July 24, 2023)Light fruit nose; then fruit, spicy rye, tannic oak (I'm missing the vanilla everyone mentions), burned cereal, anise; followed by a long and not pleasant astringent finish. Not much corn sweetness here. Disappointing, even with some water/ice. Rated 7th most exciting whiskey of 2019 by Whisky Advocate. Must not have been an exciting year.70.0 USD per Bottle -
Knob Creek Cask Strength Straight Rye (2018 Release)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 18, 2019 (edited June 17, 2023)Char wood and alcohol, cereal grain in the mouth, with the rye spice and grassy mouth-tingle on the backside. With a little ice melt it rounds out and becomes a richer fuller grassy rye and cereal flavor. Sips well, would kill in an overproof Manhattan. Update: I can now confirm that, yes indeed, it rocks in a classic Manhattan. Really stands out at that cask proof. Rated 2d most exciting whiskey of 2018 by Whisky Advocate.65.0 USD per Bottle
