New World Distillery, Uncharted Series Barrel Rested Gin
Barrel-Aged Gin — USA
Reviewed March 1, 2019 (edited August 25, 2019)Their Oomaw gin, rested in sweet vermouth French oat barrels. Batch 1, Bottle 106. Distilled in Eden, UT from organic corn. Sweet roundness to the juniper forward gin, vanilla and fruit tones. Rich and viscous, perfect for cocktails or even by itself over ice. Wonderful product. 44.5% ABV. -
Fruit sweetness on the nose. Baked apple tempered by a long time in oak, gives this a little earth and vanilla twist before the clean apple finish. Not overly sweet, but crisp like a cognac. Dark color and medium body. Excellent on its own or in a classic cocktail. Exceptionally priced for an XO too.

Backwards Distilling Co, Strongman Navy Strength Gin
Navy-Strength Gin — USA
Reviewed March 1, 2019 (edited June 13, 2023)Juniper forward navy strength gin, clean and bracing. Viscous mouthfeel with sweetness and spicy herbs underneath, and just enough citrus. Mixes well in any classic cocktail calling for that extra "umph" of a high proof gin. -
Bitter gentian aperitif from France. Rich warm yellow color and sweet bitter herbal flavor, dry bitter finish. Like the French aperitif Salers, but better on its own--more rounded and refined, not as sharp. Makes an excellent cocktail too--simple Suze and Tonic, or G&T with Suze. My favorite of the white amari or gentian liqueurs.
