C: Tawny N: Chocolate, raisins, orange marmalade, sherry, banana, butterscotch, pear, brown sugar P: Sweet, pear, honey, brown sugar, sherry, banana, chocolate F: Sharp, sweet, tannins, medium Overall, a very tasty dram! A sherry bomb with lots of lush flavors. A rich, sweet, and interesting whisky. Definitely one of my favorite whiskies of this flavor profile. We visited the distillery back in May this year and really enjoyed the tour and tasting. -
Mortlach 13 Year (2021 Special Release)
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed September 8, 2022 (edited September 18, 2022)Bottled at cask strength, 55.9% ABV. Appears to be natural color. No info about chill filtering. C: Pale gold N: Malted barley, cereal, pear, banana, fusil, caramel P: Oily, hot, pear, lemon F: Sour, hot, sweet, short to medium, very late in the finish, after I think it’s over I get a mushroom, fungus, funky taste, similar to what I get with a Springbank 10 Overall, a tasty dram with some good complexity that I have a hard time explaining in my tasting notes. -
C: Golden amber N: Campbelton funkiness, fusil, malted barley, pear, nutty, baked banana P: Sweet, oily, grippy, sour, salty F: Sharp, short, sweet, mushroom, hint of smoke Bottled at 46% ABV. No coloring added and not chill filtered. Continued to evolve in the glass. Stayed interesting until gone. Should have poured more and seen how it developed over a longer period of time.

Glenlivet 18 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed August 28, 2022 (edited September 28, 2022)C: Golden amber N: Pear, apple, barley sugar, P: Sweet, sour, heat, astringent, watery, pear, barley sugar F: Short, hot, astringent This is bottled at an underwhelming 40% ABV and has no info about whether it is natural colored or non chill filtered. Not a bad dram, but very underwhelming and boring especially for an 18 yr. Definitely not worth the price in my opinion. Not planning on buying again unless they improve the presentation, such as bottling it at 46%. -
Color: Auburn Nose: Brown sugar, toffee, caramel, plums, stewed prunes Palate: Sharp, sour, bitter, spicy Finish: Fairly short, heat, barley sugar, spicy Bottles at 44% ABV. No info about natural color or chill filtering on the bottle. Matured in ex-bourbon barrels and finished in ex-Bordeaux wine casks. like the nose on this one. The palate was initially rough, but with water it improved. I was hoping for more complexity and a longer finish in an 18 yr. old. A decent dram, but too pricy for what it delivers in my opinion.
