Little Book Chapter 1: The Easy
Blended American Whiskey — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 14, 2019 (edited September 17, 2021)Initially nose is hot and strong. This mellows with exposure/time. There are strong maple and nutty notes behind the heat; wood, leather and tobacco also. On the tongue, things come on initially strong but the maple and nutty qualities are present with some orange and baking spices. Midrange leather and tobacco come through. The finish is long woody and nutty, maybe even a little tobacco or smoke in the background. A little water toned down the heat but did not bring out any new flavors. -

The nose is very hot and alcoholic but there are some woody fruity spicey qualities behind the initial smell. The taste comes on hot and strong rye but changes to a sweeter combination of fruit and spices with wood undertones. Sweet woot finish. Water mellowed out the burn and brought out some maple but also watered down the finish. The Royale

Parker's Heritage Barrel Finished in Orange Curaçao Barrels
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 28, 2018Novel whiskey but not as complex as I would have liked. Nose is exciting with citrus and candied orange as well as typical whiskey undertones like toffee and vanilla. The palate initially comes on with the anticipated orange but becomes quickly hot, even with water added. The heat and orange cover the whiskey flavors that only show thru occasionally. The finish is shorter/muted. Enjoyable but doesn’t quite live up to the hype. The Royale -
The nose is musky earthy with dried fruit. As for taste, as a newer scotch drinker, I’m frequently overwhelmed by the initial bitterness. It took several sips to get to all the flavors but this one is complex. Initially the flavor is earthy, woody, maybe vegetal. Then some of that dried fruit and some salty chocolate and baking spices. Midway through there was a hint of that mustiness again. Not much mouth feel but it has nice finish: bittersweet with some nutty flavors. I would enjoy owning a bottle.

Very pleasant Rye. Nose is sweet grainy with wood present. That nice rye burn starts the taste but there is also some grain and sweetness like a biscuit with honey. Wood is also present which continues into the finish. The a very pleasant bitterness to the wood. The finish is not overly long and the whiskey is not as complex as others but differently closer to a 5 than a 4.

Nose is peaty and medicinal with tannic fruit notes. Possibly butterscotch in the background. Upon hitting the mouth there is something sweet maybe that butterscotch but it is overpowered by the peaty, medicinal, tarry flavors of Islay. The fruit is tannic and wine-like. Maybe some dried fruit is present. The finish is long and peaty with some wood and possibly smoke present.
