George T. Stagg Bourbon (Fall 2019)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 28, 2020 (edited April 7, 2020)Strong woody (oak) nose with a candy sweet smell. Hints of alcohol and brown sugar as well. Taste is not as sweet as expected. No burn but some spicy/pepper qualities. Viscous oily mouthfeel. Long legs on the glass. Woody and maybe earthy taste with cherries or berries mid-taste. Long finish with oak and spice and hints of sweetness. I don’t feel the lower proof reduces the quality. Very enjoyable whiskey. The Royale -

Ardbeg Corryvreckan
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 21, 2019 (edited April 30, 2019)Very complex whisky. Nose starts out very peaty and medicinal. This fades over time and shows a briny sweet fruity backdrop. With smoke present throughout. The taste hits in waves. Smokey medicinal briny seaweed on the first. Fruity cotton candy on the long second wave I can almost feel the texture of the delicious treat in melting my mouth. The finish is long and smokey sweet ash with an oaky quality. That sugar covered campfire taste will be in my mouth for an hour. Delicious stuff. -

Great bourbon. This is strong but tasty stuff. Even the nose is hot be careful how far you stick your face in. Speaking of nose it’s brown/burnt sugar with vanilla and oak and hints of spice and dried fruit. The taste comes on strong but complex with wood and tannins followed by the burnt sugar, vanilla and baking spices. The finish is long and still a little hot and slightly astringent but very pleasant. The burnt sugar is prevalent with hints of spice oak and orange peel.
