George Dickel Barrel Select
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed May 21, 2020 (edited December 24, 2020)Someday I'll regret typing this. My Mother's Family is from TN. Try as I might, I seem not to enjoy Tennessee Whiskey as much as traditional Bourbon. I can't definitively say it's the charcoal filtering, but my thoughts are consistent and I would love to be predisposed to love it. Light Gold/amber color. Aroma of corn. I've never said it, but it's what I smell. Honey sweetness and some oak. Later after tasting I thought of Captain Crunch cereal. Quite oily. Flavor continues with corn, spearmint, honey, touch of banana at one moment. Don't add water. More corn front and center. -
Copper in color early hint if mint in aroma. This leads to cherry and a touch of raspberry. Sweetness noted and a slight moment of smoke. Flavor brings along the cherry ads some spice, notably clove and black pepper. As I work through the glass some dark chocolate notes emerge. After adding a few drops of water, milk chocolate steps forward and the lingering flavor is of cocoa. I'd say my favorite notes here. It's good, but I prefer other bourbons more and definitely prefer their Rye to this.

Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 15, 2020 (edited February 28, 2021)Color is a medium copper. Nose is initially cherry, almond and some light spice. Later this becomes more of a mint note. Flavor - Honey, biscuit, butterscotch & nutty on the finish. Slightly oily and buttered toast flavor comes later. Later added some drops of water and don't suggest doing that. Nose vanished and flavors muted. Prior to the water it was stellar. Excellent -
Woody Creek Colorado Straight 100% Rye
Rye — Colorado, USA
Reviewed May 12, 2020 (edited December 28, 2021)Really enjoyed this. Was suggested by my favorite bartender and the suggestion was spot on. Bright Orange/copper in color. Nose of cedar, lemon, touch of mint and Rye notes. Flavor also a bit floral, citrus (Lemon) with black pepper towards finish. Touch oily which is nice. Vibrant but rounded and not gritty. Like it a lot -
Bright Copper in color. Aroma of cinnamon with both some vanilla and mint. More sweetness and caramel as it opens. Beautiful toasted bread notes. Caramel early and coffee notes later on the tongue. Seems to be a good deal of Rye in the spice. Huge finish here which is the highlight of this Bourbon. Toasted oak, moment of Maple and dark chocolate. Couple drops of water bring out some more chocolate notes.
