Rittenhouse Rye Bottled in Bond
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 28, 2024 (edited September 23, 2024)Have been waiting for this to become available in my state liquor controlled province 😅. Worth the wait for sure. Goes down very easy. Lovely spicy as you can expect from a decent rye. Leathery, tobacco, vanilla. It's pretty complex, nice layers to it. This bottle won't last long 🍻50.0 CAD per BottleSAQ -

This one is for the peat lovers! Smoke and coastal brine on the nose. The palate is sweet and a bit sour. On the finish the peat shines through. You get some faint dried fruit notes as well. Really impressive malt, I will definitely be on the lookout for other expressions from this distillery 👌. Cheers 🍻105.0 CAD per BottleSAQ

Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof Tennessee Whiskey
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed May 4, 2019 (edited October 17, 2021)Rick number L-1, barrel 18-9890, bottled on 10/24/18, 67.95 % ABV! The colour is impressive, very dark with almost some sort of a red glow to it. I get glue!?! on the nose, might be the smell of my burning nosehairs though, highest ABV I've tried so far! There's also definitely some maple syrup hidden behind the alcohol. The palate is massive. Brown sugars, lots of it, and cherries, dark and almost overipe ones. The ABV numbes my tongue a bit. After adding some drops of water the maple syrup shows up on the palate and finish followed by some bitter dark chocolate. This is some intense whisky, love it! My brother gifted me this bottle, he picked it up in Holland were the price is much better (60€ vs 155 CAD$). I told him I would open it when my daughter was born, which happened today! On the nose I get dried fruits and tar, it's rich and sweet. The palate is great, sherry sweetness and brine. On the finish the classic Ardbeg peat shows up perfectly in harmony with red fruits, sea salt and again tar. A perfect whisky for a special moment, cheers all!60.0 EUR per BottleMontreal

Macdonald's Glencoe
Blended Malt — Highland, Scotland
Reviewed March 22, 2019 (edited December 6, 2019)I love the 8 year age statement on this bottle, a really great young whisky this is. It's a blended malt mainly consisting of Ben Nevis. It's blended with one other Highland single malt. Rich sherry notes on the nose, Plums, abricots, overripe dark red fruits. As soon as you take a sip this whisky takes over. More sweet and sugary fruits, almost like strawberry jam. No heat for 58% ABV. The finish is long and chewy. Really fantastic stuff! Cheers all85.0 CAD per BottleMontreal
