I’m not a fan of the port/sherry cask finishing trend. They taste too much like a Manhattan, which is my least favorite cocktail. That being said, I don’t get much “port” from this port finished bourbon. It’s non-existent in the nose for me. I get a lot of vanilla, creme-brûlée’. Taste has a small hint of wine, but more of the same sweet flavors. Finish is a bit astringent for my taste. So despite not liking port finished bourbons, I don’t really see the point in this one that lacks any port characteristics. Kind of a “why bother” bourbon for me.

Oban 18 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 29, 2018 (edited December 18, 2019)Honestly doesn’t taste much different to me than the 14 year, but the 14 year is my favorite scotch so that’s not a bad thing. -
