Tastes

Nose- Heavy peat with floral and lemon notes Body- It’s bright with little peppery (almost electric) bites on my tongue. There is definitely heat here. The peat smoke gives way to a hickory smoke. Finish- The peat phenols give way to lemon and grass.

Nose-Classic sherry characteristics. Honey and raisins come through clearly. Body- Raisins continue with a syrupy sweetness and a bit of bright astringency. Finish- A light finish that gives way to floral grass, mint, and lavender. Note- This is actually the 12 year expression. For the price, it is very good. The overall profile puts it in the category shared with Balvenie Doublewood. However, I will pay the extra twenty and have the toasted oats and warm almond flavors that balance with the honey sweetness of Balvenie. This is a less refined syrupy sweet.

Nose- Astringent sugar Body- Not very hot. Easy enough to drink but not a lot going on. There is a sweet earthiness/ grassiness. Nose- Nope. It’s done.

Nose- slightly astringent. Lemon and cinnamon Body- lemon ice tea but definitely more stringent than single barrel or small batch Finish- mint, fresh cut grass, and a hint of anise

Nose- vanilla and heavy oak Body- oak and mellow vanilla contour, really nice, my favorite bourbon of the New Years 2018 tasting Finish- oak and leather sweetness

Nose- fingernail polish remover, seriously Body- sweet and lemony but with burning and tingling in your lips and tongue Finish- lemon and sweet tea Notes- feels like a firecracker in your mouth

Nose- smoke, corn chips, and slightly astringent Body- very peppery with smoke and beef jerky Finish- meaty sweetness continues

Nose- sweet tea, baking spices, and cinnamon Body- cinnamon and baking spices continue Finish- black pepper and cinnamon

Nose- heavy lemon and wood Body- lemon is pervasive along with sweet tea and oak notes Finish- lemon zest continues

Notes- cinnamon and sweet tea Body- sweet tea continues with a hint of lemon, honey and caramel Finish- mint gives way to fresh cut grass Note- baby brother of Old Fitz Whiskey Connoisseur tasting at Heaven Hill.
