Enjoying neat. Delicate and smooth. Honey/light caramel, vanilla, and oak. Just a hint of baking spices of cardamom, cinnamon, allspice, and anise in the background. for some interest. Balanced, non offensive, easy drinking Just about as good as a low proof bourbon could be. Similar-ish to Four Roses standard release..Both are blended from multiple recipes, easy drinking, yet more flavorful than you'd expect. Jefferson's trades the FR's rye for a little more age. A little less floral, herbal, and baking spices for a little more barrel vanilla, oak tannins, smoke, and cinnamon23.49 USD per Bottle

Tasting neat. The appearance is a deep amber. Nose is cocoa, oak, caramel, and vanilla. The nose doesn't deceive, as the taste is rich with chocolate, sherry, vanilla, and butterscotch. Cocoa and butterscotch last through the medium long finish. The heat is subdued and is quite smooth Unique, deep, complex, and a case study for what you can do with finishing. I don't know how good the base whiskey was, but nothing offensive came out. Regardless, worth a try to see what French oak and sherry casks can do to a bourbon. I personally think it's a steal for the price, especially for 95 proof, so a bonus quarter point for value. Definitely will buy another bottle30.0 USD per Bottle

Very Old Barton 86 Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 16, 2019 (edited September 23, 2019)Easy drinker, very smooth, thin, and soft..Honeysuckle, apple nose. Slightly sweet and tart. There's a beam-like nuttiness, cinnamon on the tongue..very slight bubblegum. In the same flavor family as Beam High Rye (Basil Hayden, OGD). I doubt many would notice if you filled an empty Basil bottle with this. Stupid good value and tragically hard to find13.0 USD per Bottle -
Tasing Neat: Beautiful deep copper color. Nose has the expected ethanol, but the burn is short and clean and is quickly followed by a spicy oak, red apple, light brown sugar, vanilla and char. Tasting starts out with the ethanol and lots of flavor intensity: The sweetness is nicely countered with smoke and oak that gives a nice sweet/savory balance. Lots of baking spices, notably nutmeg/allspice, with some dark fruits and a touch of chocolate. Finish is medium-long with a nice tannic ending. Overall, a rich, complex bourbon that stands out with its smoky, spicy profile. Woodford Reserve and Four Roses Single Barrel lovers, will find a lot to love with this one. Great value and will always be in stock on my shelf47.0 USD per Bottle

Tasting neat. Nose is caramel apples with some wood and a very slight burn. Taste starts with plenty of oak, barrel spices, and vanilla, mostly warm cinnamon, with lots of brown sugar, red apple, cherry candy, and a touch of smoke and alcohol burn. The finish is long, somewhat tart with lots of wood sweetness It's a standard, and put wheaters back on the map. It's smooth and pretty, but has just enough bite to keep it from being a dessert bomb. A good bourbon to cut your teeth on, that you may just have to keep around in your collection20.0 USD per Bottle

Experiencing neat: Nose has some ethanol heat, eucalyptus, menthol, caramel, vanilla, oak. Tasting starts with light sweetness, vanilla, oak, then some heat and spice from the alcohol, red hot cinnamon, black pepper, and green herbal rye notes. The cinnamon sticks around a while and is joined by the caramel, vanilla, and oak. The flavor finish is medium long, but some tannins and saccharine stay around a bit longer Not a ground breaking bourbon as it is MGP sourced at the moment (currently aging their own juice) and I can taste a lot of Bulleit/High West Rye in it. Speaking of Bulleit and High West, ADC definitely plays off the Old West and uses a unique bottle, with their brand name cast into rough cast glass. A nice touch and deserves a little bonus along with reasonably pricing the product. Try worthy for Bulleit Rye and Bourbon, High West Double Rye, and 1792 fans30.0 USD per Bottle

Trader Joe's Kentucky Bourbon Straight Whiskey
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 8, 2018 (edited July 3, 2021)Tasing neat. Nose is dominated with alcohol, with some oak and a little caramel. Tasting starts with light sweetness, oak bitterness and hot-ish cinnamon that's pretty consistent through the finish. The middle adds soft, oaky, dessert spice and a little red apple that gives way to some saccharine sweetness that results with a red hot candy finale. A little water didn't seem to tame the heat/harshness, but took out the complexity and brought out more saccharine in the finish. Not a bad bourbon by any means, especially for the $$, but I wouldn't call it smooth or complex. It's definitely in the Barton family as it does share some general characteristics of 1792 with the heat, oak, and cinnamon. It improved for me with some air time and hand heat, as it brought out the more round and delicate flavors that you'll find in Old Barton. Think of it as a love child between 1792 and Old Barton, but a little younger (though I wouldn't say it tastes young) and with different barrel selection. I'll probably pick up another bottle when I'm close to empty and am shopping at a TJ where they sell spirits16.0 USD per Bottle -
Tasting neat. Nose is of moderate intensity. Sweet with mild musty wood, mint, red apple with a hint of varnish/acetone burn (fresh bottle). Taste is slightly sweet and smooth, molasses, botanicals, wood, bark cinnamon, walnut, with a tart, medium, dry finish. A lot of flavor for 86 proof. A rare find of old bourbon at a decent price, despite the lower proof..it's a pretty darn good value59.0 USD per Bottle

Tasting neat. Nose is bright with light caramel, honey, light oak, some spice and ethanol. First taste is light and fairly bright. It builds on the nose of light sugars and honey, oak, vanilla, and alcohol with mild grass/hay, general baking spices, moderate tartness, that lasts through the finish along with some lightly roasted cocoa Overall fairly mild and much more complex after you let it breathe. Better as the glass/bottle empties30.0 USD per Bottle

Black Ridge Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 24, 2018 (edited September 9, 2021)Neat, Previously opened bottle; Nose is soft, floral, oak, and a little alcohol sharpness at the end. The taste stays true to the nose, a softness at the start, floral, vanilla, red apple, then sweet, then a touch of tartness, alcohol, and soft cinnamon to finish. Definitely has the Barton taste. Very close to 1792 SmB. Almost a Basil Hayden'd version of it. A bit softer and 'prettier', less heat, less sweet.30.0 USD per Bottle
