Powers John's Lane Release 12 Year
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed December 5, 2020 (edited May 7, 2021)This might be the best Irish whiskey I’ve had. Very crisp apple juice and vanilla nose that carries into the palette. The flavor is rich with a long finish giving a ton of complexity for this category. As it opens I pick up some baking spices, oak and darker fruit tones, not quite prune but close. I seek out a journey in my whiskey tasting and this delivers.69.95 USD per BottleLiquor Outlet -
Cardhu Gold Reserve (Game of Thrones-House Targaryen)
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 1, 2020 (edited May 7, 2021)Apple juice, apricot, and pear on the nose. Smoke on the front of the front of the pallette with a bit of burn, finishing with the very sweet fruit tones. A little thin and dry but leaves a good after taste. -
Michter's US*1 Barrel Strength Kentucky Straight Rye (2019 Release)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 26, 2020 (edited May 7, 2021)A subtle rye nose with dominant caramel and vanilla tones. Rye touched the palette first, then a long flavor journey begins burying the rye and opening a dark date undertone moving to sweeter marshmallow, some tea leaf oak and baking spice round its long and complex finish. This is excellence in rye. -
Blanton's Straight From the Barrel
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 17, 2020 (edited February 13, 2021)Like regular Blanton’s, but more flavors. Standard orange blossom citrus and sweet nose. Sweet undertone with citrus overtone. Damn near perfect! -
1792 Aged Twelve Years
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 17, 2020 (edited December 18, 2020)Punchy and spicy nose. Palette swings above its weights drinking like the full proof. Very sweet brown sugar with a little nuttiness but sting spice and dry finish. Good, but I can get the same flavor for less in the full proof bottle. -
Forged Oak 15 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky (bottled in Tennessee), USA
Reviewed November 17, 2020 (edited February 8, 2022)Nose is nutty and honey with a spicy overtone, hinting floral. Heavy wood note palette with brine, finishes floral. Burning in the back. Definitely old, not off-putting. -
Very musty and fruity nose. Mixed fruit palette with a tad of smoke and oak in the middle finishing tobacco. Nice burn from the the high proof makes it more enjoyable than most scotches for me. Spendy, but a good sipping scotch for those that only go scotch once in awhile.97.0 USD per BottleTrailhead Liquor
