Sam Houston 14 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 10, 2021 (edited September 21, 2021)Cardamom heavy nose, with some dark fruit undertones. Plenty of sugars on a second sniff. Palette totally departs from the nose. Wood tannin undertone with sweet layers on top. Complex, non-offensive and sophisticated. Really stinking good.16.0 USD per Pour -
Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 10, 2021 (edited July 7, 2021)Very sweet brown sugar and honey nose with some fruit undertones, maybe raisin, but not overpowering. Sweet notes dominate the palette with a rising spice climaxing near the finish. Finish is long lasting with pepper and tobacco notes. No wonder I can’t find this, it’s excellent!17.75 USD per Pour -
Nose is the strength of this dram, chocolate hazelnut with earthy undertones and brown sugar. Palette is is very thin stewed fruit, junipers finishing softly spicy and lots of oak, like licking a stick. Some will like this for its soft texture. I think this punches below its price and 8 year age statement—too watered down.79.99 USD per BottleIdaho State Liquor Store

West Cork Cask Strength Blended Irish Whiskey
Blended — Ireland
Reviewed January 17, 2021 (edited March 24, 2022)Floral nose with apple juice undertone. Palette is spicy and big up front molding to apple and light oak flavor. Very good, not aged enough to be amazing. -
Has a bourbon nose, brown sugar, vanilla and baking spices. A little more sophisticated than the 12 yr, but also a little shorter finish and a little flatter. Tea notes have weakened and cayenne pepper overtone remains from the 12 yr. More wood tannin and a tad sweeter. Not worth the exorbitant price difference. This might be fun at cask strength.

Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye
Canadian — Manitoba, Canada
Reviewed December 5, 2020 (edited May 7, 2021)Nose is a weak but pleasant rye and baking spice. The front of this was a pleasantly smooth rye dominate flavor with shortbread undertone. The profile soured into a tinny and bitter finish, like licking the insides of a stale flask. Finish hovers too long with this dreck. Life’s too short for this kind of crap.
