Russel's reserve private barrel selection 1010 washington ryans pick
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed March 8, 2023Nose: caramel, vanilla, cherry, faint oak. Its vibrant. Very faint woodiness like pencil shavings. Body: medium Palate: minty is my first impression, caramel and that mintiness on my second sip. This is drank neat. Finish: with a medium short finish with caramel Note: a pick from Don but ryan helped in this one. This is a pretty standard bourbon whiskey. Good, not great, everyday sipper kind of whiskey. Im curious to taste this next to the single rickhouse to compare. This is better than the MWS RR pick i tasted at the whiskey tasting weekend. -
Eagle Rare 17 Year Bourbon (Fall 2019)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 4, 2023 (edited March 5, 2023)Nose: neat - caramel, oak, medicinal cherry, a little rye spice. Maybe a hint of barrel smoke. Body: medium Palate: oak up front, caramel, little cinnamon spice Finish: medium long little rye and cinnamon Note: a few ounces from don. This is good not great. The nose is most interesting -
Jack Daniel's Twice Barreled American Single Malt (2022 Release)
American Single Malt — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed February 3, 2023Nose: unique. Rye, mint, hints of old fruit like an over ripe plum Body: light to medium Palate: follows the nose. Rye bread, a little sugary sweetness, a little of the old fruit sneaking through Finish: short to medium Note: another pick from don. This is not my favorite. Really just tastes like a straight forward rye, maybe a little mint to it. Meh. -
Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch Bourbon (2022)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 3, 2023Nose: caramel, oak, little cinnamon spice, cookie dough. After a sip more caramel and red hot cinnamon, little pie crust Body: medium to full Palate: caramel, cinnamon spice, little herbal note sneaks in. Little doughy character sneaks in Finish: long and smokey caramel absolutely fantastic with a late Kentucky hug and more smoke. Whoa. Note: ounce from don. A very nice more than solid, excellent dram. Maybe a little rough on the edges but really tasty. -
Old Fitzgerald 19 Year Bottled in Bond (Fall 2022)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 28, 2023 (edited January 30, 2023)Nose: rich caramel and oak. A touch of cinnamon. Touch of vanilla. Body: thin to medium Palate: lot of oak, followed by flat cola, caramel. Finish: long, oak and caramel. I really liked the length. Note: one ounce sample from don. This is a good dram but fairly one dimensional. Ate this after a lot of hot Thai food so maybe that affected my taste buds. The 17 with its dark berry flavor I think is better. This is good not, not great. -
Russell's Reserve Single Rickhouse Camp Nelson C
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 5, 2022 (edited January 5, 2023)Nose: caramel, oak, vanilla, chocolate, roasted peanuts, pencil shavings, red berries, orange Body: medium to big, nice slowly building Kentucky hug. Palate: sweetness hits me first. Citrusy. Some caramel and smoke if I really try hard to pull out more flavor. A little spiciness Finish: medium and more caramel spiciness. Note: neat from a glen cairn. It’s light, fruity. A little nutty. I think the nose is really interesting but the palate falls a bit short for me. The citrusy notes are nice. The finish is longish and sweet but it feels like it’s missing some body, some darker notes are not there for me. I was expecting blow the doors off and I got a measured door opening. Good not great. -
Nose: caramel, cinnamon, cherry cola, barrel spice. Later a nutty flavor wafted out like wall nut. Body: medium to large with a medium Kentucky hug. Palate: sweet and spicy. Caramel and barrel spice Finish: medium caramel and smoke. Note: very curious about this after the breaking bourbon review. My first bottle was good but not great. The review basically called this the pinnacle of LBP. This is drank neat in a glencairn. Take home. This is pretty big, sweat and smoky caramel with barrel or cinnamon spice. It’s nice but not blow my socks off amazing.

Nose: cherry coke, cinnamon, caramel and oak. Vanilla. Later dark fruit/blackberry. Body: medium Palate: cherry coke, cinnamon, caramel, vanilla, and dark fruit. Finish: really long. No Kentucky hug. Delicious barrel smoke Note: got many ounces of this from don just because he’s a nice guy. So pumped to try this. This is drank nest from a glencairn. This is really an exceptional dram. In the range of Boone county 13 year. Exceptional in that all the flavors come in waves and while the palate matches the nose each sip and nose doesn’t match exactly. The length is great.
