Kentucky Owl Bourbon (Batch #10)
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed February 19, 2021 (edited April 10, 2022)Nose: cherry and spice. Very thick/full nose. Some type of sweet bread is also there. Kind reminds me of eagle rare on the nose. Obviously there’s a price difference. Palate: full and creamy and lots of spice on first sip. Definitely 120 proof. Great coating though. Almost WLW like at first. Second sip: more fruit forward but just as viscous. Finish: pretty lengthy finish on this one. Vanilla til the end. Overall: as always with this one the price point is the first thing brought up. I told myself I wouldn’t buy this and several months later I got a different job with much more income and so I saw it again and said why not give it a go. This bourbon is good. For being a high proofer i think it probably ranks with the best somewhere. The difference is that price. I still stand by that if bourbon msrp keeps going up I won’t be into bourbon as much as I am currently. This bottle will last me a very long time but I don’t think I’d ever buy backups or try to get the other batches. If I finish this one and have a little bit of funds to get another I will buy it if I see it, otherwise I wouldn’t think about it. If this bottle was $75-150 I’d probably take a different view. I’ll give this a good rating only because it’s about the juice not how I feel on the price of it. But if I included price in my judgement it’d be a 1 out of 5. If you haven’t had this you’re not missing out really. Find yourself a Stagg jr and you’ll be much happier.300.0 USD per Bottle -
Thomas S. Moore Port Cask Finished Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 5, 2021 (edited August 4, 2021)Nose: very fruity nose. Like a thicker angels envy. Dark apricots Palate: lots of wine on this palate. Tannins are definitely there mixed in with the spice. “Extended cask finish” is printed on the front label and it definitely applies here. This spice kind of takes over though. Finish: dry and fruity finish. Medium/short length. Overall: not bad but not incredible at first. Gonna let it open up a bit75.0 USD per Bottle -
Nose: lots of caramel and some peanuts. Some vanilla too. Just classy bourbon notes I think on this. Palate: sweet initially with some oak coming through. Weirdly, I get cantaloupe towards the end 🧐. Basing this off of memory but it reminds me of Kentucky Owl Confiscated. Finish: short/medium length finish with vanilla lingering. Overall: pretty decent from 1792. I don’t think this should be a limited release though. Honestly can’t remember what I paid for it but I think it’s worth it. Not special enough for backups though I’d say.

Fiddler Georgia Heartwood Bourbon
Bourbon — Georgia, USA
Reviewed January 9, 2021 (edited July 25, 2023)Nose: such a rich and full nose. Probably the richest I’ve smelled ever. Starburst comes to mind. So fruity and strong. Just based off the nose Id give a 5/5. Nose after a few sips shows a bunch of oak now. Palate: lots of spice. Lots and lots of spice. Very woody as well. Palate isn’t as strong as I expected based off the nose. Second sip is not as spicy. So a bit more fruit shines through. Note that the first sip was my very first sip of whiskey tonight so obviously after my mouth was coated it wasn’t as potent. Finish: incredibly long finish. The spice lingers on and on and on. Second sip, still a very long finish with good balance this time. Overall: JAX (ATL, GA) store pick. Not sure of the age but it’s 114.2 proof. I guess it’s a wheated bourbon as well? Which is cool to know. I think it’s a solid bourbon with what seems like a lot of aging behind it, whether it’s from the Georgia heartwood or actually from aging. A gift from the brother-in-law for Christmas and a very solid present I think. Color is also beautiful btw. Would like to let it open up for a while before trying again. -
*second tasting Nose: crisp rye spice initially. Lots of floral notes second. Lots of vanilla too. Good nose for your standard straight whiskey. Palate: very refreshing. Smooth and yet spicy. No alcohol burn but good balanced flavor. Pretty much what Aaron is intending from smokewagon I think with this one. Finish: short/medium length with vanilla Overall: right there with the first tasting. Your standard straight bourbon that is balanced but nothing complex. A good bottle to have shuffled in your collection.30.0 USD per Bottle

Jack Daniel's Eric Church Single Barrel Select
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee , USA
Reviewed January 4, 2021 (edited November 9, 2021)Nose: very spicy nose. Thin caramel with a lot of peanuts Palate: very thin palate with more heavy peanuts. Not really oily though, just thin. Lots of spice too. Very similar palate to nose. Finish: some vanilla and caramel but kind of short finish. Overall: the bottle is cool, Eric church is cool, Jack Daniels is cool. The bourbon inside? Almost cool. I haven’t had the normal single barrel select in a while but this didn’t impress me much. Oh well! Cool bottle50.0 USD per Bottle -
Parker's Heritage Heavy Char Bourbon 10 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 25, 2020 (edited May 30, 2021)Nose: lots of oak and smoke. Also very buttery nose. Heavy dark fruit as well. Noting that the color is soooo dark. Palate: whoa...this is incredible. The first half-second you get all wood with no fruit at all. Then it immediately bursts with sweetness out of no where. So much dark fruit on the back palate. I’ve also never had a bourbon that changes this much halfway through the palate. Finish: the wood is back but it blends nicely with the cherries at the same time. The wood/oak lingers forever. Overall: $150 is steep. But jeez is this bourbon good. For a once a year, limited release I thoroughly enjoy this bottle. This is my first Parker’s Heritage but holy cow man I’m glad I got lucky. Also, adding that at 120 proof, this bottle drinks way way below that.150.0 USD per Bottle -
Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 21, 2020 (edited March 15, 2023)Nose: lots of caramel. Very buffalo trace esque. A tiny bit of spice and nothing more. $12 bottle so didn’t expect much. Palate: very soft and sweet at first. Little caramel and a little burn. Maybe a tiny vanilla but not much. Finish: very short with some alcohol. Nothing crazy, very minimal. Overall: about what I expected. Was told to get this several times (mostly due to being a buffalo trace product). I believe this is a solid bourbon for $12. Wouldn’t pay a dime more though.12.0 USD per Bottle -
The last and best part of the piglet trio Christmas set ($20). I am very hesitant on buying this bottle for $250 so this Christmas set was a no brainer. Nose: honestly way different than the 10 year. Very rich nose with more complex fruit. It just smells considerably older. Palate: oily immediately but fruit starts to shine through earlier than the 10 and 12. Much more complex palate as well. I don’t get much oak on this like I figured I might. Everything has been further diminished here from the 12. Very very smooth and scotch-like (as for being clean and such). Finish: very short finish. You have to dig hard to catch anything lingering. Overall: very very underwhelming whiskey. For $250 I will never purchase this. Not saying it’s bad but I like the 10 year better than this. Glad I found this Christmas set to help me realize this.20.0 USD per Shot

WhistlePig Old World Cask Finish Rye 12 Year
Rye — Indiana (bottled in Vermont), USA
Reviewed December 20, 2020Bought this with the Christmas trio ($20) piglet thing. Excited to try because I haven’t been sure if I’ve wanted to purchase the bottle for $125. Nose: super dark and rich. Very fruity on the nose. Very easy to tell this one is port finished. Lots of red wine in there. Palate: very oily immediately like the 10 year. Not much fruit coming through. Toned down from the 10 year just a hair. Much dryer palate as well, for obvious reasons. I get some bready notes shining through (fresh sourdough). Finish: there’s a little mint like the 10 year finally coming through. Very dry finish thanks to the port. Medium/short length. Overall: honestly, the nose is much better on this one but the 10 year wins the palate between the two. And for roughly $35 cheaper too. Not the biggest fan of this one.20.0 USD per Shot
