Vanilla, honey, caramel, a tiny bit of spice, on the sweeter side, short finish. This is very easy to drink. Ain’t nothing wrong with that. Thanks to @ContemplativeFox for the sample.

Girvan 24 (1994) Single Cask Cask Strength (Càrn Mòr Celebration of the Cask)
Single Grain — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed March 21, 2022 (edited March 23, 2022)Nose initially is really faint citrus, maybe some lemon bar. After several minutes in the glass some manuka honey, caramel, toffee and French roast coffee notes appear. Still very restrained, yet pleasant. Palate is semisweet and also restrained with lemon, caramel, toffee, pastry and mocha coffee notes. Finish is on the shorter side and makes me think of having a buttered scone with mocha frappuccino. Thanks to @ContemplativeFox for the sample. -
Càrn Mòr Glen Grant 1992 (26 Years)
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed March 21, 2022 (edited March 23, 2022)Nose begins with strong apples and pears like a typical Speysider, then berries, toasty malt, citrus, dried fruits and flowery notes join in. Delightful! Palate is supple, a little chewy and semisweet. The apple and pear notes are most prominent with citrus, pastry, nuts and dried fruits trying to make themselves known. Finish is long and spicy. Thanks to @ContemplativeFox for the sample. -
Bushmills 12 Year Single Malt
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed March 17, 2022 (edited December 13, 2023)Neck pour. Nose has apple, pear, vanilla, shortbread cookies and a hint of toffee. Palate has the same plus a really nice spiced wine note, on the other hand there’s also a nail polish remover note and the typical Bushmills bog water note which I don’t like. Finish is medium length and initially pleasant, but turns kind of bitter. -
Càrn Mòr Cambus 1991 (27 Year)
Single Grain — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed March 16, 2022 (edited March 23, 2022)There’s some nice notes in this whiskey, dried fruits, honey, chocolate and vanilla to name a few, but the ethanol a sour note really detract. Added water helps with the ethanol but the sour note persists. Maybe it’s the sherry cask? Thanks to @ContemplativeFox for the sample. -
North British 1991 28 Year Cask Strength Collection (Signatory)
Single Grain — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed March 15, 2022 (edited March 25, 2022)Nose: Mature oak, lemons, leather, raisins, prunes and milk chocolate. Palate: Sweet & sour mix, medium dark chocolate, red grapes, dark berries, dried fruits, toffee, leather and cream filled chocolate cake. Some of those notes sound weird together, but they work for me. Finish: Long, somewhat spicy. The figgy/chocolaty/prune note hangs a long time but gives way to lemon bar at the end. Thanks to @ContemplativeFox for the generous sample. -
Plantation Rum Original Dark Overproof
Dark Rum — Trinidad & Tobago
Reviewed March 11, 2022 (edited March 23, 2022)This is a righteous overproof rum. Flavorful, rich and powerful, wouldn’t sip it but seems it would be great in a cocktail. -
Cruzan Single Barrel Aged Rum
Aged Rum — US Virgin Islands
Reviewed March 11, 2022 (edited March 23, 2022)Oak, vanilla, caramel, molasses, light baking spices, ethanol and a hint of tobacco make for a delightful nose and palate. Finish is relatively quick with a flash of bittersweet vanilla, baking spices and tobacco. -
Don Q Signature Release Single Barrel 2005
Aged Rum — Puerto Rico
Reviewed March 11, 2022 (edited March 23, 2022)Initially it’s just sweet ethanol on the nose, it never really goes away, but subsides enough for light tropical fruits, vanilla, caramel and charred oak notes to poke through. It’s actually quite pleasant. Light bodied, slightly creamy and semisweet on the palate with vanilla prominently on display, also some barrel spice, oak and light caramel. I know it’s rum, but could almost be fooled into thinking it’s a light whiskey. Finish is lengthier than expected, sides of my tongue are numbed, a somewhat bittersweet, caramel, oakiness resided on the center of my tongue for minutes.
