Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 2, 2021 (edited March 19, 2024)Thanks to a buddy in Oregon for sending me a substantial sample. Can’t find this in my area, at least not for a reasonable price. Tasting: Take ECSB and add extra vanilla and toffee. Tasty for sure. Worth MSRP. -
Not much information to be found about this XO cognac. One of the internet sellers had this to say: “Better known for their orange-flavored liqueur, Marnier also make a Cognac. A blend of up to 30 eaux-de-vie from the top cru of the region, Grande Champagne.” I like both Grand Marnier and cognac, so when I found it on sale I took a chance. There’s plenty of oak and barrel spices, from the nose to the finish, which start strong and gently fade, but never disappear. Not unpleasant by any means. They’re accentuated with cocoa, dried apricots and nutty notes. Rich palate. Long, drying, spicy finish. After further review, this is a little unrefined and harsh. Dropped 3/4 points.49.99 USD per Bottle

Not much info on the bottle. KSBW aged three years in American white oak barrels. Finished in Navigator Red Wine Barrells. Precision Wine (Navigator) lists a "Barrel Bomb" wine as coming soon on their website. They describe it as "High-quality Kentucky Bourbon aged for three years in New American oak, which is transferred to french oak wine barrels inside of which Cabernet and Red blends were initially matured. That wine is then transferred back into those very same Bourbon Barrels to enhance the wine." I suspect this is the Bourbon they used. Strong red wine influence on what tastes and smells like Basil Hayden bourbon. Decent for sipping imo. Would not purchase at normal price, but it’s well worth it with the 5 cent sale at BevMo.24.97 USD per Bottle
