Gold Spot 9 Year Single Pot Still
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed November 11, 2023 (edited April 19, 2024)Ok, ok, I’ve come back to reality. Tasting this on its own and its good, real good, but not worthy of my initial take. Nose: Berries, vanilla yogurt, granola, baking spices and tobacco. Palate: A little hot, but creamy and balanced, with berries, vanilla, baking spices, honey, tropical fruits, toasted grains and tobacco. Finish: Long and warming, with more berries, tropical fruit, and vanilla plus some oak and barrel spice. Initial take was Damn! and a 4.75 rating. -
5 cl taster curtesy of @ContemplativeFox. Oh so good! Spices, dark dried fruits, chocolate, oak, leather and vanilla notes. Full and balanced. A little smolder on the lengthy finish. Thank you @ContemplativeFox for the sample, and darn you @ContemplativeFox , because now I have to buy a bottle!

Evan Williams 1783 Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 1, 2023 (edited December 31, 2023)Soft, mellow, sweet, supple, oatmeal cookie with raisins, light baking spices, mild heat. Just really enjoyable. A great one to introduce someone new to bourbon. A hair below the B.I.B. I believe Heaven Hill is currently my favorite US distillery. Affordability, availability, deliciousness, they are at the apex! -
Evan Williams White Label Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 1, 2023 (edited February 8, 2024)Good enough to sip (with an ice cube) excellent mixer. Has my vote as best sub $20 bourbon. Notes of caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, oak, butterscotch, brown sugar, hints of dried fruits and walnuts, plus a prickly, spicy finish. -
Old Tub Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 1, 2023 (edited February 8, 2024)At first I thought this is just a slightly richer, fuller version of JB White label. But it does have a little charm in the nice, spicy, oak and vanilla notes. -
Ardbeg Wee Beastie
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed November 1, 2023 (edited December 27, 2023)Musty, dirty olives, brine, engine oil on the nose. Thick and oily on the palate with more dirty olives and brine. Finish is short, peppery and bitter. Some smoke arrives late. This lacks any charm compared to other Ardbeg offerings I’ve tasted. Improved slightly towards the end of the bottle. Was actually quite good in a Scotch Old Fashioned, which where the majority was consumed. Bumped 1/4 point.
