Starward (New) Old Fashioned
Other Spirits — Australia, Australia
Reviewed March 9, 2024 (edited April 15, 2024)Its slick yet feels a bit chewy with orange and cherry notes. Nice version of an old fashioned, but just a little too sweet for me. -
Knob Creek 12 Year Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 1, 2024 (edited May 3, 2024)This took a minute to grow on me. Burnt brown sugar, maple, toasty oak, vanilla, baking spices, right amount of heat, nice little Kentucky hug. Very good. -
Lagavulin 8 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 15, 2024 (edited February 18, 2024)Surprisingly light compared to other Lagavulin’s I’ve tasted, but that certainly does not make it lesser of a whiskey. Lemony with shellfish, fresh stone fruits, light medicinal peat and beach bonfire notes. Delicious and crushable. -
Red Spot 15 Year Single Pot Still
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed February 8, 2024 (edited September 10, 2024)Distiller review No. 800 Nose: I smell short bread cookies, caramel, toffee, malt, red berries, and baking spices. Palate: Oily, savory and semisweet, with butter cookies, dried red fruits, cereal, baking spices, toffee, caramel, and walnuts. Finish: Long and smoldering, with malt, cereal, red fruits, baking spices, and a bittersweet walnut note, which contrasts nicely with the palate. These notes are just the tip of the iceberg . Its very complex and super enjoyable! I have thoroughly enjoyed this nearly 5 year long journey of exploration, sampling many different types and styles of distilled spirits. I have challenged myself and palate, reaching beyond the safety of sweet red wines and rum and coke, into the spicy and smoky worlds of rye whiskey, Islay whiskey, and mezcal. But, can a leopard change his spots? I find myself constantly drifting back to the sweet end of the ditilled spirits spectrum. That’s my wheel house. Good to know thyself I suppose.149.99 USD per Bottle -
Marie Duffau Single Vintage 1997
Armagnac — France
Reviewed February 6, 2024 (edited March 24, 2024)Calling this woody, would be an understatement. Tannic oak dominates, barely allowing the vanilla, dried red fruits, caramel, toffee, cocoa, and baking spices through. I find it interesting, but not super enjoyable.99.99 USD per Bottle -

Mars Iwai Tradition Finished in Napa Wine Casks
Blended — Japan
Reviewed February 5, 2024 (edited February 17, 2024)Neck pour. Almost more of a bourbon finished wine rather than the other way around. The Napa cab overpowers all other notes, but they play a nice second fiddle. Sumptuous grape notes tinged with baking spices, vanilla and bbq sauce. Pleasant buzzy finish. Delicious!51.99 USD per Bottle
