Jack Daniel's Winter Jack
Other Whiskey — Tennessee , USA
Reviewed October 28, 2016 (edited May 16, 2017)Weird... I think that single word sums up this drink. While I can imagine pouring this over a warm applie pie and ice cream, outside that scenario, why would anyone ever want to willingly sip on this odd concoction? -
A good whisky, and at $35 CAD, who the hell can possibly complain? The rye is unmistakable, the oak complimentary, there's notes of wild blueberries, and a certain je me sais quoi sweetness (either the touch of bourbon or sherry can take credit). It's an overall balanced and medium-bodied whisky I can recommend - just make sure to add some water.

Glenlivet 18 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed October 23, 2016 (edited August 13, 2017)It's remarkable what a few months of decanting can do to some whiskies. An originally 2-star whisky now deserves 4, as time has mellowed and enriched the nose and flavors. There's apple and spice, almost evocative of a pie, with caramel rounding the experience. Quite delicious. -
Glenmorangie Lasanta Sherry Cask Finish 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed October 20, 2016 (edited August 13, 2017)Good, but probably a disappointment for anyone looking for a predominantly Sherry tasting whisky. The nose has notes of both vanilla and oak, and the palate is spicy with cinnamon surfacing. The body is full and oily, and so quite pleasant considering the overall underwhelming experience of this whisky. The finish has a slight but not unpleasant burn. Again, good... But not great. -
Three Ships 5 Year Premium Select
Blended — South Africa, South Africa
Reviewed October 20, 2016 (edited May 16, 2017)Woe is me for buying such rubbish! It may be peated, but it shall not be repeated. -
Knappogue Castle 12 Year Bourbon Cask Matured
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed October 20, 2016 (edited March 9, 2018)Very nice whiskey albeit prepubescent in strength. The overall experience is light, with notes of oak and lemon on the nose with additional vanilla on the palate. The body is light and the finish is short yet pleasant. Nice and overall balanced. -
Speyburn 10 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed October 17, 2016 (edited August 13, 2017)A decent whisky at a great price. There are faint notes of caramel and citrus, though it's an underwhelming dram for the most part. It's not a bottle I would buy, but it's also certainly not one I would turn down. -
Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition
Blended — Ireland
Reviewed October 17, 2016 (edited November 22, 2021)84... 84? I honestly do not understand how Distiller rates spirits. It's honestly mindbending. We have here a delicious, albeit unconventionally tasting, whiskey. Picture Jameson meets Guinness in a bar, hook up, and have a great tasting baby. THAT is what this is. AND it's a mere $40 CAD. Win-win.
