Highland Park Dark Origins
Single Malt — Orkney, Scotland
Reviewed November 4, 2016 (edited August 10, 2017)Solid HP! There's everything you can expect from this Orkney distillery: sherry, tobacco and pepper. The dram is light and hardly peated, with a finish that is smooth and wonderful. Definitely worth the $100 CAD. -
Macallan Rare Cask
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed November 4, 2016 (edited January 12, 2018)A delicious whisky, with sherry barrels being apparent. There's caramel, dried fruits, some vanilla and plenty goodness in a liquid that is balanced and quite mature. The finish is long and solid, with nothing to reproach it. Truly fantastic! -
Dalwhinnie 25 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed November 4, 2016 (edited August 13, 2017)Great whisky, but I'm not sure it's worth its cost. Imagine a much mellower 15 with arguably the longest finish I've ever experienced in a whisky. Again, great, but when it comes to bang for your buck, stick to the 15. -
Dalwhinnie Distillers Edition
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed November 4, 2016 (edited January 28, 2018)In principal the Dalwhinnie 15, but with a generous dose of sherry. This whisky is wonderfully sweet and fruity. The body is light, and the finish neither short nor prolonged. Very good! -
Collingwood Blended Canadian Whisky
Canadian — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed November 4, 2016 (edited May 16, 2017)Good Canadian whisky that clearly shows its been aged in former Jack Daniels casks. The nose is quite tropical, with strong notes of bananas. The palate is sweet and light, with a finish that is... unpredictable. Is it the maple wood used to enhance its flavor? I'm not sure, but it does make for something different and original. -
Pike Creek Canadian Whisky Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Canadian — Canada
Reviewed November 4, 2016 (edited October 16, 2020)Delicious and another great whisky from the same makers of Lot 40. It's quite smooth, with the nose evoking port wine. There's cherry at the finish, though regretfully that finish is much too short. -
Balvenie Portwood 21 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 4, 2016 (edited March 5, 2018)Simply phenomenal! There's dried fruits from the port, walnuts, spices, and more in a whisky that is carefully balanced in flavor and sensory experience. The finish is sweet and savory, with no burn but deep sadness that such a delicious dram is so expensive. -
Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 4, 2016 (edited July 8, 2020)A great whisky that leave little to complain about, with the exception of a slight burn towards the finish. The rum is quite predominant yet complimentary, with notes of burnt sugar and vanilla. Delicious! -
Glenfiddich 21 Year Reserva Rum Cask Finish
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 4, 2016 (edited November 1, 2017)Sweet, sweet baby Jesus in his Christmas craddle! This whisky is OUTSTANDING. The level of complexity is remarkable, especially because it all balances so perfectly together. There's coffee, banana and brown sugar (clearly thanks to the rum). The finish is flawless, being both smooth and long. In conclusion: it's actually heartbreaking to know something this accomplished will set you back financially to such an extent.
