Talisker 10 Year
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed September 13, 2016 (edited August 13, 2017)Subtle smoke with caramel, the nose and palate are both pleasant though underperforming. The alcohol is well-balanced although the finish is short. Full-bodied and delicious. A good whiskey. -
Glenfiddich 15 Year Solera Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed September 13, 2016 (edited January 12, 2018)Simply wow, and it pains me to give such high praise to a Glenfiddich. The nose feels like a walk in a fruitstand, with added nuttiness and sweetness. The palate is wonderful and perfectly complements the initial experience. While this whiskey lacks complexity, it more than enough makes up for it with masterful balance. -
Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 13, 2016 (edited August 13, 2017)Arguably the most underwhelming nose I have ever come across in a single malt scotch whisky. With enough physical exertion, you may experience hints of caramel, chocolate, and maraschino cherry. The palate, on the other hand, is surprisingly rich with each of the elements I previously mentioned. The finished product is delicious, though the alcohol is a little too intense. A decent whisky. -
Dalmore 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 13, 2016 (edited January 12, 2018)Smoked ever so slightly to the nose with hints of caramel, this is a good whiskey. And while its aroma under performs, the palate does quite the opposite and is complex, with leather and spice really coming through with the oak. The finish itself is prolonged, giving us a whiskey that behaves in crescendo to the enjoyment of the drinker. -
Cragganmore 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed September 13, 2016 (edited August 13, 2017)The nose is pleasant, evoking crisp apples and a bouquet of flowers. The palate is spicy, with the oak really taking center stage. The finish is fairly pleasant and prolonged, with a kick of alcohol at the end. Not bad. -
Auchentoshan 12 Year
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 13, 2016 (edited August 13, 2017)The nose lacks complexity, but hints of citrus come through, with almost a touch of cotton candy and caramel. The palate is spicy and woodsy, with the alcohol disbalancing the finished product. It's decent. -
Nomad Outland Blended Whisky
Blended — Multiple Countries
Reviewed September 13, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)A remarkable blended whisky, with hints of caramel and dried fruits (particularly figs and raisins). The palate is similar to the nose, with a full syrupy body. The finish is prolonged and delicious. Again it's magnificent. -
Your typical low end bourbon, with oak and corn boldly coming through the nose and palate. It's sweet and fruity if you bring your nose desperately close enough to the liquid, though not enough to make it redeemable, considering the disbalanced spicy finish. The Jack Daniel's Old No 7 is better at this price point.
