Wasn’t sure what to expect from genever as a gin drinker, but was pleasantly surprised. For lack of a better description, the flavor profile is somewhere between an Old Tom style gin and sort of an un-aged whiskey. Not especially dry, though not sweet either, a bit malty with some juniper and more mild fruit and herb notes. Familiar, yet very much in its own category. I’ve read that genever was a precursor to what would later become gin and that history comes through in the overall taste. Very worth trying.

Got this to try for an Aviation and was told to try the slightly more expensive version since the cheaper variety is a bit artificial-tasting. Didn’t know what to expect from the flavor, but was pleasantly surprised. It’s definitely very floral, but not overly sweet? A little goes a long way, but very good.

St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur
Floral Liqueurs — France
Reviewed June 28, 2022 (edited November 18, 2022)So glad I discovered this! I’ve had an elderflower syrup I’ve used for a while and decided to get a small bottle of St. Germain to try for my Sunflower recipe. One of the best liqueurs I’ve ever tried. A bit pricey, but worth it.
