Very light appearance. Subtle nose, some peat but with an interesting buttery quality to it. Maybe some floral notes as well but primarily staying true to the smoky/peaty nose. Taste comes in very pleasant and balanced. A sweetness (vanilla maybe) comes off initially to break the ice which is backed by the smoky peat. It has a nice buttery mouthfeel to it with a bit of spice to it, possibly related to the proof, but still isn't overpowering or hot which is very impressive. The finish is excellent and might derive extra length from the higher proof but is very enjoyable and lasting. Exited to taste this again. I need to get a bottle of this.

Compass Box The Peat Monster
Blended Malt — Scotland
Reviewed August 26, 2022 (edited December 4, 2022)Very light appearance. Muted or subtle nose to it, there's some peat but it's not as strong as most Islay Scotch. Having a hard time placing the additional scent next to the peat, only word coming to mind at the moment is lacquer but in a good way, maybe the slightest bit of banana. Taste comes in sweet and refreshing. It's oily with some vanilla or sugar for the sweetness which is balanced nicely by the smoke and peat. I can taste the proof (92) a bit more than some but it's definitely not overpowering. It moves into a very nice balanced lingering finish that sits perfectly in your mouth. -
Kilchoman Sanaig (2016 Edition)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed August 26, 2022 (edited December 2, 2022)Caramel colored appearance to it than some. More rounded peat nose with some vanilla or toffee present. Taste has a very pronounced smoke flavor to it with a bit of malted barley. It's balanced by the sweetness that still seems to have vanilla or toffee backings to it. The finish pleasant an balanced with a little bit of pepper or spice to it. -
Balcones Lineage Texas Single Malt
American Single Malt — Texas, USA
Reviewed August 26, 2022 (edited January 16, 2023)Very interesting nose. Molasses, cinnamon, and cherry stand out the most but very complex nose. Has a medicinal scent to it as well. Taste is oaky but medicinal and very cinnamon forward to me with some licorice. I’m undecided on the taste but enjoying it more than I thought I would for the flavor profile. Finish is smooth with a little spice. Not too hot. Second visit was very medicinal and not a huge fan. -
Knob Creek 12 Year Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 24, 2022 (edited January 16, 2023)Very fresh wood forward. Maybe some leather on the taste but it’s really a young fresh wood taste all the way through for me and into the finish that seems to lack complexity and variety. -
Thomas S. Moore Cabernet Sauvignon Cask Finished Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 24, 2022 (edited January 16, 2023)Cherry and oak heavy on the nose. Oak up front but moves into a medicinal, floral, cherry favor and stays with cherry and oak through the finish. Thick mouthfeel. Good all around but a lot of cherry. -
Nose of smoke, oak, caramel, maybe leather or tobacco. Very interesting and complex nose. It’s definitely barrel proof but not overly harsh like some. Taste comes in very buttery caramel and sweet with a lot of complexity. Moves into a little heat but the flavor remains into the finish and is enjoyable all the way through. Maybe a bit of orange or cherry on the finish as well. A couple drops of water opened it up a bit and I keep noticing new things on each sip. Exceptional bourbon to me.

Very pleasant peaty nose with a hint of citrus and maybe what I can only think of currently as varnish but in a good way. Taste is smooth and smoky that slowly builds a little spice and has some citrus and balance of an Islay scotch with a more traditional scotch taste. It’s builds some spice towards the end to leave you with a very nice lingering finish. I also like that its over 90 proof and feels right.
