Toasted wood on the nose with a little bit of smoke and toffee. Nice round flavor with some peat, smoke, vanilla, caramel, and toffee. Interesting blend of sweetness into a peated Scotch that I feel is very well balanced and enjoyable. Finish moves into a nice smoky taste as the sweetness fades into a touch of spice. Very nice blend of flavors and one I'll need to revisit.

Very light color. Mild floral nose accents on top of the peaty smoke. Taste comes is toasted with peat and I’m not getting many notes past that, but it hits just the right spots to enjoy those flavors although a bit acidic or spicy. Finish is much the same. Not the most complex but smooth and enjoyable all the way through and sticks to the traditional peated flavor while maintaining a lighter and more refreshing mouthfeel.

Basil Hayden Subtle Smoke (2022 Release)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 26, 2022 (edited January 16, 2023)Nose of almond, toasted wood, and butterscotch with a little smoke as the name would suggest. Not a lot to the taste. It has some smoke to it and very muted Basil flavors but nothing really stands out and it fades quickly. A bit lackluster. -
Peat and smoke on the nose but also notes of what I might say is citrus with some warm oak. Taste comes in with a warm oak, meaty, smoky taste you expect and the flavor is excellent. It’s very smooth and mellow but has a lot of flavor. Nice and substantial mouthfeel. It moves into a very satisfying finish that lingers nicely and very low burn to it. One of my favorite tastes to date.

Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 20, 2022 (edited January 16, 2023)Nice strong oak smell with traditional caramel and vanilla. I also get a little butterscotch and it smells like a higher proof. Taste comes in nice and buttery with good oak flavors, some vanilla and a bit of leather. Has some decent heat to it but not bad for the proof surprisingly. Finish has something to it that I’m having trouble picking out but includes some nice caramel notes as well. Want to visit again but nice first impression. -
Heaven's Door Double Barrel Whiskey
Blended American Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed July 20, 2022 (edited January 16, 2023)Very pleasant nose, sweet with vanilla, toffee, oak and caramel. Taste comes in a bit spicy, it’s tough to pick out some of the flavors initially but the finish tones down the spice slightly and you can make out some oak, cigarettes, and leather, doesn’t match the nose to me. I’m not sure where I land on this one, want to revisit, might need to let this one sit for a bit longer before tasting. -
Macallan 12 Year Sherry Oak Cask
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed July 19, 2022 (edited January 16, 2023)Apple and citrus on the forefront of the nose, a little cherry as well. Taste comes in refreshing with citrus and oak, semi sweet and medium mouthfeel into an oaky finish with a little caramel or toffee and a nice amount of spice. Very enjoyable. -
Apple, oak, and citrus on the nose but tasted at a restaurant so other smells going on. Taste comes in with a little smoke but more citrus and grape flavors to start. It changes quite dramatically in the middle to a very pleasant sweet smokey taste you’d expect from a peated scotch while not being overpowering. Interesting blend of scotch flavors and quite enjoyable.

Glenfiddich 14 Year Bourbon Barrel Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed July 14, 2022 (edited January 16, 2023)Very interesting nose of apple, grapes or citrus, almost has a nose of a white wine with a few darker notes of oak and caramel. Taste comes in very warm and pleasant with caramel, vanilla, lightly toasted oak, and a hint of apples. It’s definitely a scotch but the bourbon influences make it a really interesting taste. It’s very smooth through the finish which is a little on the short end but very satisfying. Very enjoyable. -
Glenlivet 12 Year Double Oak
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed July 13, 2022 (edited January 16, 2023)Nose of citrus, apple with some floral hints and maybe some butterscotch. Taste comes in with a toasted oak or butterscotch intro that is semi sweet and moves nicely and smoothly into a pleasant finish, not much burn and a decent flavor profile.
