Henry McKenna 10 Year Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 5, 2022 (edited May 10, 2022)It’s good but is it so good that sellers should double the price after winning multiple awards? No. It’s worth about $50. If you want to pay a bit more because you’ve never tried it, sure. I get it. I’ve done it myself. It’s solid but this isn’t pappy. Or is it? I dont know because I haven’t had it or seen it below $1000. -
This is one of the more unique bourbons I’ve had. I really disliked it at first but it’s grown on me a lot. I can’t put my finger on the taste. Yes it has some familiar bourbon notes but something is much different. Maybe it’s a yeasty-orange taste? Maybe that’s the worst description ever. I dont know. I do know that I like it. It’s not my favorite but I’m going to keep a bottle around. I look for award to tasting this as future releases hopefully add more age.

I toured rock town and did their whiskey enthusiast tour that samples 8 of their different whiskeys. It was an enjoyable tour and the distillery does some really neat stuff. Although I’m reviewing their entry level bourbon, I think a lot of this review applies to a many of their whiskey products. With the exception of their barley, everything else is locally sourced from the grains to the barrels. My opinion of this bourbon and all of their whisky that I sampled is they have some potential for some really neat stuff. However 22 months just isn’t long enough for the price point they are trying to sell. Everything is just a bit too young. Their bottled in bond tasted quite a bit better likely due to having more age. I have a soft spot for smaller operations like this. However for as long as they’ve been in business I think it’s enough time to make sure an entry level bourbon like this has more time in the barrel. I live in Arkansas and can actually purchase Russell’s ten year for less than this. Four roses single barrel is within a few dollars. I think Rock Town is a need operation and definitely worth trying if you enjoy whiskeys. Are you going to find the next hidden gem in the bourbon world that you can’t find elsewhere? Not yet.

Knob Creek Single Barrel Select Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 15, 2022 (edited June 10, 2022)This was one of the rare bottles that peaked the night I opened it. Mine was a Barrel pick that I sampled in store. It was amazing. The night I opened this, it was better than I remembered. In the weeks that followed it never measured up again. It had an overpowering ethanol flavor. I opened up a knob creek 12 year today and I think it will be much more up my alley. At only 100 proof and three additional years age, I think it’s the sweet spot for the knob creek flavor profile. I normally like higher proof bourbon s but this one fell short. Ill try this again some day and maybe have a better experience. -
I keep a bottle of this on hand because I can regularly find it for close to retail. I see this stuff marked up on secondary for up to $130! Folks, it’s fine but don’t let FOMO cause you to make a foolish decision. There isn’t anything that special about this. At times, it seems a bit watered down. Like most wheaters, it’s an easy sipper with a slight sourness that I like.

Angel's Envy Rye Finished in Caribbean Rum Casks
Rye — USA
Reviewed March 13, 2022 (edited May 10, 2022)I’m not enough of a rye guy to know what experts think of this. Nor do I care. I love this. It’s one of the only bottles of whiskey that the nose actually stopped me in my tracks the first time I tasted this as an experienced whiskey drinker. At all times I keep on hand about 5 bottles of rye, 5 bottles of cognac, 10 bottles of Irish whiskey, 20 bottles of scotch and 50 bottles of bourbon. You can tell where my passion lies. However I would consider this bottle second to none that I own.89.0 USD per Bottle -
Smoke Wagon Uncut Unfiltered Bourbon
Bourbon — Indiana (bottled in Nevada), USA
Reviewed March 9, 2022 (edited May 27, 2022)In ignorance I avoided this because the idea of an mgp bourbon out of Las Vegas just didn’t seem authentic enough for me. After resisting the constant praise I read about this, I finally found it locally at an acceptable price and bit the bullet. This has turned out to be quite possibly my favorite bourbon in my collection. There aren’t many bourbons I can get that are so rich in flavor without being a bit harsh. This is absolutely phenomenal. If I had to pick between this, russels single barrel, Blantons and four roses sb select, I think would reach for this most nights. Batch 129.70.0 USD per Bottle -
High West American Prairie Bourbon
Bourbon — (bottled in Utah), USA
Reviewed February 27, 2022 (edited August 13, 2022)Sometimes you know a bourbon isn’t anything fancy and have low expectations but you really like it. I’m very pleased with this at its price point. I think I’ll keep it around. Nice honey flavor.
