Old Pulteney 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 12, 2017 (edited March 18, 2017)Nippy Sweetie sample -- sat on the balcony at 5am in 27 degree Australian summer heat and decided to pop open this sample. Strong oak flavours, slight salted caramel and mocha on the nose. A little salty in the aftertaste with some brine and ... damp clothes (?) ^_^ but that might be the humidity Would consider investing in a bottle -
Dunville's Very Rare 10 Year
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed February 12, 2017 (edited April 29, 2017)Bought in Wolfsburg, Germany The first thing you notice is the intensity of the sherry cask - in this case Pedro Xìmenez (or PX). The whisky has certainly spent a lot longer in these casks than just a finishing period - soft, sweet notes envelop the nostrils and follow through into a very easy drinking finish -
Nippy Sweetie sample - the oak comes through really strongly, almost overpowering masking the other subtleties. It's a shame this one has been brought down from cask strength actually as it doesn't leave you much to play with to eke out the nuances. Would not invest in a whole bottle but happy to have tried
