Interesting dance between the spiciness from the rye and heavy barrel char characteristic of all Woodford's products. Nose dominated by rye notes, but after some time, vanilla, oak, and cacao show up All rye up front. A little bit of sweetness, and some corn mid palate. Nice long finish, after any of the spice and floral hints leave there's just a bit of warmth at the back of the throat and chocolate and barrel linger. Incredible complexity for the price.

I'm still far more appreciative of bourbon than Tennessee whiskey, but this has my attention. I'll rate it compared to other Tennessee whiskey, rather than comparing it to bourbons... Pale golden with reddish hues Very sticky, slow moving legs Nose is dominated by grain bill... Hints of corn and rolled cereal grains. Notes of cinnamon and orange peel. Soft mouthfeel, good warmth and spice on the sides of the tongue are first wave. Long finish with some barrel notes, dry oak and more flaked cereal grains. Almost no sweetness other than from the hint of burnt caramel

A golden yellowish hue, a little past straw. Nose reveals youth and a hint of grassiness. A bit of heat, and a little rough around the edges, but the hallmark notes are there. Some honeysuckle, light toast, vanilla and notable hints of rye grain and corn. Thin mouthfeel carries some heat on the sides of the tongue. Got to admit nothing really jumps out... Barrel char comes through on the finish. Some sticky burnt caramel as well. Definitely young, and a bit hot, but it's a bargain at 15 bucks, and can certainly be drank neat.

Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 13, 2020 (edited May 20, 2020)Had to back the nose out of this one a little bit... Really packs a wallop. Notes of musty corn, rye grain, toast and light wood, some caramel and vanilla. Hot on the palate, long on the finish. Front shows rye grains and oak Seamless transition from sweet to dry and back carries the caramel, barrel notes and grains into a finish that unfolds over an astonishingly long time. Notes of chocolate and eucalyptus emerge among the caramel and char. This is special. Well balanced and my favorite product of the Russels. -
Nose of vanilla, fruit a bit of spice and hints of musty, flaked rye. Well balanced between mash bill and barrel Long finish of sticky fruit and dry oak follow a sweet grainy front. Leaves lots of oak on the palate, with some lingering warmth. Long enough finish to enjoy, but so delicious and we'll balanced that I want to go back for another all too quickly

Very young, indeed. Nose is corn (obviously...) pears and other sweet fruit, burnt caramel. subdued barrel notes linger. Very distinct nose. Gets more exciting on the palate. It's sweet and lively, with a bit of an oily stickiness. Soft slow rollout of corn-barrel-corn and other grain notes mixed with spices and a hint of saltiness. It's interesting, for sure. Probably not something I'd do again, but that's not because it isn't good... I just prefer bourbon!

Nose is caramel, vanilla frosting, hints of nutmeg/cinnamon and ever so faint cedar/eucalyptus/mint. Wheat is apparent. More spices on the tongue/palate. Something floral too. Wonderful warmth all the way down. Oak comes through big time on the finish like fresh oak sawdust. Lingering sense of cacao powder. Long finish rolls out all the notes. I'd get this anytime I see it!

Henry McKenna 10 Year Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 28, 2020 (edited March 4, 2020)Barrel #7779 on 12.14.09 So much going on here. This, in 2016 and 2017 was my standard go to bourbon. Given how hard it has become to find, I appreciate it even more! Vanilla, barrel char. hints of rye grain, sweet chocolate, dark fruits and spice. Long, lingering finish carries a bit more spice and incredible balance. A few drops of water really open it up nicely.
