WhistlePig Old World Series Madeira Finish 12 Year
Rye — Indiana (bottled in Vermont), USA
Reviewed January 25, 2020SO much going on here. Beautiful legs that stick to the glass... Nose has light caramel, the familiar whistle pig rye grain notes and hints from the Madeira and port barrels in the background. Golden raisins in there somewhere. Smooth palate carries a lightly sweet grain front to a finish that goes back and forth between dry oakwood, toasted grains, musty barn, cacao, ripe plum, hay, toasted pecans and brown sugar. -
Glenmorangie 18 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed January 15, 2020 (edited June 11, 2022)This is the most well balanced scotch I've ever experienced. Honey ,honesuckle subdued peat and smoke, sweet corn, some cobweb and spice. Orange peel. Soft but warm palate Grains dominate the finish, along with white grapes and other orchard fruit. -
Nose is dominated by barrel char. Very hot. Some rye comes through as well as notes of dark caramel and hints of cigar smoke and rye. Very hot from the palate down through the finish. A splash of water opens it up a bit and reveals notes of dark cherry and black pepper. Dries a bit at the back and shows the wood.

Bushmills 10 Year Single Malt
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed January 13, 2020 (edited April 2, 2020)Hot nose, hints of mint, pepper, rolled grains and musty cobwebs. Lots of golden raisins and ripe d'anjou pears. Sweet front, some warmth, green grapes. Some spice and eucalyptus. Long, light caramel finish mingling pear-like sweetness and grains. -
Golden straw in color, speedy legs. Sweet Corn, barnyard, dry oak and barrel char and a bit of burn hints of currants and tart berries. Some light caramel. Softer than I expected, but finish is hot and fast. Sweet. Nothing unexpected, outside faint notes of mint and eucalyptus. A bit flat on the palate and not very complex, but this is an incredible value at $23.99 for a 1.75.
