Golden amber, nice sticky legs. Nose is tart fruit, spices and rye grains but the barrel comes through all throughout. Toasted rye bread in here as well as oregano... Soft mouthfeel. Hot on the palate. Front shows the spices: clove and cinnamon, finish is dry, roasted grains, oak and barrel char. Notes of cacao, eucalyptus and more spice. Lots going on here. Solid value. More heavily influenced by the barrel than the bright, tart fruity ones out there these days.

Old Overholt Straight Rye Whiskey (80 proof)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 2, 2020 (edited March 7, 2021)Pale straw Bright floral and tart fruity nose. Hints of eucalyptus and flaked oats. Reminiscent of green apple jolly ranchers Thin mouthfeel, but a nice warm finish. Palate shows classic rye notes: a little citrus, plenty of spice. Faint caramel on the finish, dominated by the spice and tart fruit. Really a wonderful value. Excellent cocktail rye -
Journeyman Distillery Buggy Whip Wheat Organic Whiskey
Wheat Whiskey — Michigan, USA
Reviewed July 7, 2020 (edited January 2, 2021)golden amber, nice sticky legs Dry grainy nose with light caramel notes and some spices Distinctly soft mouthfeel of a wheated whiskey. Some heat at the back of the palate. Mint and eucalyptus notes mingle between sweetness on front and finish. Vanilla and more spice coming through as well. Cloying, sweet finish with lingering dry oakyness. -
Deep brown-gold common to Woodford. Nose is a musty barn/rolled grains distinctly NOT rye. Chocolate and burnt caramel. Soft mouthfeel and a bit of warmth at the back of the throat. Very easy to drink. Front is sweet and chocolatey and yields to some dry oakiness, leather and more chocolate. Unquestionably a Woodford product, but smoother, more subdued and a bit more musty. This is really good

Revisited this after not having a whiskey for a week, and not having this in a long time. What I will say impresses me the most is what Woodford can do with oak. What comes out of this shows so much of the magic of what can be done with the barrel. It's really cool. Dark brown with just a hint of amber. Nose: chocolate, Madagascar vanilla, both heavily charred and fresh cut oak, subtle hint of sugar cookies. Front is woody, followed by loads of chocolate and vanilla, warms the back of the mouth and finishes all sweetness and barrel. This is an absolutely massive bourbon, and not for the faint of palette. I had my first bottle a few years back, and didn't really know how to appreciate it. But now I think it could be my favorite widely available purchase. This will remain in my cabinet always.

Angel's Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 16, 2020 (edited July 7, 2020)Faintly rosy golden amber Rise definitely noted on the nose, along with some fruit, vanilla and spice notes with a hint of eucalyptus. Soft mouthfeel with a pop of heat at the back of the month, port comes through on the finish, mingling with cacao, oak and vanilla with hints of creamy peanut butter. Longest notes are from the wood. It's good, but I'm not sure I'd drop the $50 on it again. I'd be happier with a few others at that price point.49.99 USD per Bottle -
Dark golden/light amber color Nose shows some rye, spice and a nice pop of heat. Smooth mouthfeel, Sweet on the front transitions nicely into corn, burnt caramel and a hint of vanilla. Nothing really jumps out of the glass, but it's well balanced and easy to drink neat. Freshly hewn oak comes through on the finish with some dry cereal grains. For 14 bucks a bottle, this is a true bargain. Isn't going to blow your hair back, but it's very drinkable neat.13.99 USD per Bottle

Hints of eucalyptus and cedar. soft mouthfeel, but tons of heat on the back end. Plenty of chocolate and vanilla left on the finish, and the heat comes from both the alcohol and the barrel. Very long finish, dominated mostly by the barrel. Super complex and really hot. VERY dry finish. Hints of clove stick around Tried this again in August 2020... Upping the rating -
Glenlivet 12 Year Double Oak
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed May 30, 2020 (edited June 30, 2020)Orange peel, honeysuckle and light peat notes Soft warm mouth feel carries a sweet front into a bounce back and forth between light spicy notes, dry oak and more sweetness. Golden raisin. Some saltiness in there. A bit of warmth in the chest, the lingering finish is the saltiness in some cardboard.
