Pleasant butterscotch sweetness. Nikki Minaj levels of thiccness on the mouth feel. Cask strength shouldn't scare you away if you're even a moderately experienced whisky drinker. If the mizunara oak has the effect I think it has, it's different for sure. No brine notes for me, and with the name meaning ocean that's a disappointment, especially if you're looking for an Islay analogue. This and the peated are the only ones worth looking at imo, but for the price many better options imo.

Light, light peat. Butterscotch sweetness. Thick viscous mouth feel. Mizunara oak spice lingers. Nice but nothing remarkable for me. With a name that means ocean I was hoping for some more brine notes but none to be found for me. This and the cask strength are the only two of the lineup that I really like but for the price I'm not so sure.

Rogue Dead Guy Whiskey
Other Whiskey — Oregon, USA
Reviewed July 27, 2020 (edited December 23, 2020)Flat beery nose at first. But give it about 10 minutes. Then it's just a rich coffee chocolate and baking spice. Palate is similar to the nose. Like a milk/dark chocolate coffee hazelnut caramel desert. But not cloyingly sweet. Mouth feel isn't super oily and thick but it's not thin either. Velvety but you can tell it's somewhat young. Would love to see what this would be with the age statement on the Oregon single malt (>5 yr). Medium length finish. A bit dry but in a way that makes you want to have another drink. -
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch A120
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 25, 2020 (edited May 1, 2021)First pour: all ethanol heat and barrel char. Second pour (a few weeks later, and a few drinks in already): caramel candy corn, stewed red apples in baking spice, just the right amount of oak tannins to let you know this isn't a young bourbon. Long long long finish. Thick syrupy mouth feel. Hint of barrel char. Pure delight. Caveat: You gotta warm up, so to speak. Usain bolt doesn't just get off the couch and break world records. Same applies here. Ease into it with a glass or two of your favorite whisky and then go for the gold.
