Nose: The nose starts off with greeting you with a super sweet kiss of vanilla coffee creamer. Smoke follows but is more nuanced that what I would have expected. There are other notes in the bouquet such as incomparable apples and oranges, and briny saltiness but I'd say the perfect amount; not nearly as overwhelming as the Red Label. Taste: The palate is very welcoming. Salted caramel starts the show followed by earthy peat, dark chocolate, and honey. The finish is smooth and has seemingly contrasting notes of campfire smoke and mint. Opinion: Johnnie Walker, well done! You've made a great classic blended scotch, one that is iconic and is among one of the top selling scotches worldwide! You don't get to that place without something worth selling and consistency! For those who are new to whisky, this scotch can basically be found anywhere and is a good entry level scotch. I really like this dram and highly recommend it! Sláinte!40.0 USD per Bottle

Jack Daniel's Gentleman Jack
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed May 29, 2018 (edited October 7, 2018)Nose: Yep, the nose is Jack Daniels through and through. Its iconic sweetness telling you to "Pick me up and drink me!" is even more pronounced in this version of their Tennessee whiskey. Bananas and graham crackers with Nilla Wafers cookies greet your nasal cavity with a friendly greeting. Taste: The palate is so noticeably smooth, nearing the point of disappointingly so. A little charred oak and vanilla show up, and there are still the notes of banana but for the most part, it's just smooth and nearly dull. The finish redeems it though (I guess) by adding a little fight and cinnamony burn at the end in the back of the throat. With ice added, it becomes just a simple refreshing porch sitting summertime drink. Opinion: Like I said in my other note about the standard Jack Daniels, it may not be my personal favorite, but there is a reason big names get to where they are. Jack has done some cool things and this whiskey I can see really stand out to some people. Maybe that's you; if you're on the fence I say get a sample-size bottle and try it. Here's to gentlemen everywhere! Cheers!2.0 USD per Pour -
Nose: So (for me personally who has not yet had much experience with peated whiskies) the nose starts right off the bat with peat and brine. There also lies notes of wood and car exhaust. The nose is not the worst but boring; one or two notes that really stand out. Taste: The palate matches the nose as kinda boring but with salty brine on the tongue and in the finish. There are also notes of plum or cherry in there. The finish lingers and also leaves me with cardamom spice. Opinion: I can see why and agree that this scotch should primarily used as a mixer. Now, it's not going to kill you, and if someone poured me a dram of this neat I would drink it and be grateful. In my humble opinion though, if you want a peated scotch for mixed drinks, go for it! But if you want a stand alone scotch, I would keep looking. Sláinte!3.0 USD per Pour

Four Roses Private Selection Single Barrel Barrel Strength Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 25, 2018 (edited October 7, 2018)Part 4 of 4: Nose: On the nose I found very strong vanilla, with caramel, banana, and butterscotch notes. Taste: The palate was very punchy. Heavy oak and licorice notes were what stood out mostly. Opinion: Though this 59.1% abv and over 9 year old bourbon was not necessarily my favorite, I can see this being very pleasant and enjoyable to others! It was complex and had a lot of character while still staying true to the Four Roses taste profile. All in all, I greatly enjoyed the tasting event, and can't wait to see those of you near Colorado Springs at the next one! Sláinte! -
Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 25, 2018 (edited October 7, 2018)Part 3 of 4: Color: The color on this single barrel is a beautiful mahogany or henna brown. The legs appear viscous and don’t leave for a while! Nose: The nose on this bourbon is so good! It contained notes of brown sugar and spices, oak, vanilla, honeysuckle, ginger, and mowed lawn. The Single Barrel probably has my favorite nose from the Four Roses lineup. Taste: The palate contains notes of honey, oak, almonds, and buttered breakfast toast. When adding a few drops of water notes of cherry and chocolate powder came forth. Finish: The finish is lingering but the initial impact is refreshing and crisp, almost minty. Thoughts: This is a fine bourbon and if you are one who enjoys the standard Four Roses, you may very well find it worth paying the extra for this Single Barrel offering. I can see why this would be a number of folks’ go-to bourbon! Sláinte!45.0 USD per Bottle -
Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 25, 2018 (edited October 7, 2018)Part 2 of 4: Nose: The nose had notes of honey, grass, and a rye punchiness that made it a little more aggressive. Taste: The palate had honey and caramel notes, with a lemon tang finish. Add a splash of water to mellow it more and add sweeter notes. Opinion: This one was very tasty and I very much enjoyed this one! I will be buying a bottle sometime and I highly recommend it! -
Part 1 of 4: So last night I attended a Four Roses tasting here in Colorado Springs and was very impressed! Brent (master distiller of Four Roses) and his team put on a great evening of tasting four of their products! Color: The color in the glass was a tawny caramel. Nose: The nose was not too crazy, but still really good. I got notes that contained oak, vanilla, caramel, and grass. Taste: The palate was simple yet very enjoyable with honey and caramel notes with a smoothness I really enjoyed! Finish: The finish was medium in length, had little to no burn, and was, for lack of a better word, refreshing! Opinion: It was a simple bourbon but it was very tasty and I have no complaints with it! It would make a phenomenal go to bourbon for me personally as even my wife, who does not drink whiskey neat, tried it and said it tasted sweet and she liked it! Well done Four Roses! Nose: The nose is great and very welcoming! Heavily buttered cinnamon toast greets you first; overripe apple notes are present as well as sourdough bread. And as I'm smelling this, I'm reminded of two thoughts: breakfast oatmeal and pizza crust. Regardless, the nose on this Irish whiskey is delicious. Taste: For me, the first thing on the palate to register is orange citrus. I also find notes of breakfast biscuits, and there is a note of Trolli gummy candy that I thought was strange but fun. The finish has a little kick hitting the back of your throat then fades into calm silence. Opinion: I have never had a whiskey alongside breakfast personally. But if I did, this I think, would make a great breakfast whiskey. All the food notes would compliment a hearty breakfast nicely. I like this whiskey. It may not be top shelf, but the quality for the price tag is pretty rad. Sláinte!25.0 USD per Bottle

Nose: The nose though not dramatic is still very welcoming. Candy corn and vanilla are dominant with some wood and caramel notes adding a subtle contribution. Taste: On the palate we find, like the nose, nothing complicated. There is sweet maple syrup, corn, and a honey-like aftertaste. The finish leaves you with some oak notes but is clean, fresh, and crisp! It's quick though, so don't miss it. Opinion: It's not a bourbon with a lot of action, but if you are looking for a decent refreshing dram just to sip on among friends, this is it! I really like it: it's local, it's delicious, decent for the price, and proves that there's more to Breckenridge than just skiing! It's not top shelf, but I will probably buy it again. Jack Daniel's Old No. 7
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed April 28, 2018 (edited October 7, 2018)Nose: The nose is quite welcoming and sweet, like a summertime dessert. (This is probably the best part of the whiskey if I'm being honest.) There are strong notes of banana and vanilla with lesser notes of corn and a bit of smoke. Taste: The palate is good but not remarkable. Sweet with various fruits, predominantly banana matching the nose. It also has vanilla and oaky char notes. There's a long finish with a bit of heat closing the show. Opinion: To my understanding some folks seem to avoid the big "mainstream" names in the whiskey world, and Jack Daniel's is one of the biggest. I personally have nothing against this as those brands are probably big for a reason. Now, is this dram going to be one of my favorites? No. But in my opinion it's a good dram for the price for sure mixed or neat, and as one of the largest names in the world for one of the smallest niches in whiskey, (Tennessee whiskey) that is something to be proud of, so good work Jack!
