Abasolo Ancestral Corn Whisky
Corn — Mexico, Mexico
Reviewed November 19, 2022 (edited February 4, 2023)I’m glad I have this .. really am, but I would not buy another. It’s interesting. Color is very light like a white wine. On the nose, I really do not like. It’s a very funky smell that I can only equate to socks. Want to buy this yet? However, the taste is liquid tortilla chips and not bad. Beautiful bottle and glad I own for the novelty, but can recommend beyond the nice liquid tortilla taste. Mellow Corn is much better if you are looking for a corn whiskey.19.0 USD per Bottle -
Remus Single Barrel Straight Bourbon (2022 Release)
Bourbon — Indiana , USA
Reviewed November 19, 2022 (edited January 10, 2023)Excellent nose. Traditional notes with nice vanilla and toffee coming through . Definitely some tobacco notes which I love. Before the taste, you can see thickness. Very nice viscous feel. though it’s about 115 proof none of that high proof comes through on the taste as the nose notes transfer to the palate. Little bit of pepper and spice on back of palate and the finish is long and very warming. This is a home run and better than bottles 2X the price.60.0 USD per Bottle -
On the nose, nice apple and some definite sweet notes but not in the classic bourbon sense. Fruit is the dominate note Taste that apple really comes through. Light on the palate from a texture standpoint but not in a thin way. A bit one note with the fruit and not what I would call classic caramel vanilla on the taste. Definite tingly notes on the palate. Longish finish and warming . Not strong on the ethanol but just a tinge but can’t fault as it is higher proof.85.0 USD per Bottle

Some sweetness but noses a bit young with some grain notes. Not bad but definitely some flaws. Taste is a bit harsh and really does carry over that young taste. Definitely drinks proofier than what it is. Not a ton of sweetness on the palate and finish isn’t too prominent. This one will go into the mixing pile, but glad I’ve had a few pours out of the bottle37.0 USD per Bottle

Really nice oak notes and a bit of vanilla and some tobacco … really great nose. On the taste this is coming off so nice. Sometimes I get a thin feel of ER, but this pour is really rich and follows the nose. Not a long finish but a bit of cherry. Eagle Rare can come off as one of the best pours of the night and sometimes just really thin. It’s so much variance pour to pour. This pour was really good and what I wish every ER would be.32.0 USD per Bottle

Luca Mariano Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 16, 2022 (edited March 18, 2023)Right at the end of the bottle. I think this is an excellent bourbon and definitely worth your $60 as it offers some unique notes. On the nose it’s actually pretty standard … nice vanilla and some standard bourbon notes. A bit of wood notes but not a ton The taste is really where this guy sets itself apart. I really can’t put my finger on the notes that come through beyond the standard bourbon notes but a bit of spice and a bit of the wood comes through … really follows the nose. Finish is medium … more on the dry side and not the cherry you usually get. This is one of the best bourbons you haven’t tried. Reasonably priced …. give it a try.60.0 USD per Bottle -
Old Grand-Dad Bonded Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 16, 2022 (edited December 20, 2022)Light vanilla. Surprised that the Beam peanut isn’t stronger, but it’s just not there. This is like vanilla frosting … quite nice. On the taste, pretty standard bourbon…I do get a bit of cardboard on the backend of the taste that isn’t the best, but it’s not overly prevalent but definitely there. Cherry on the finish. It’s an inexpensive BiB … nice to visit one in a while, but nothing outstanding.22.0 USD per Bottle -
This definitely has the Turkey profile on the nose. Really not picking up anything particularly special on this pour…nothing bad just nothing special. Light vanilla and caramel. The taste was actually quite proofy and overpowered the notes on the taste. I typically pick up lots of peanut on the nose and taste from Saffel, but this pour isn’t really coming off near as pleasant. Just not picking up much on the taste outside of what you’d expect from a run of the mill bourbon. Finish is pretty nice and on the long side. Best part of the pour. Disappointing pour this time.57.0 USD per Bottle

PayDay candy bar on the nose with a bit of cinnamon. Really complex for the money as it changes to more of a candy red hot (yeah …still cinnamon). On the taste, really pleasant and get less of the candy note but a really nice cinnamon and warming on the front of the palate. I usually get a strong raison but not on this pour. Finish is very warming and longish. This is a definite buy for the money. Thanks to my buddy Derek for sending me a bottle. He’s a great friend!33.0 USD per Bottle
