Evan Williams 12 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 14, 2023 (edited August 22, 2024)Bourbon is so subjective to the palate! For me this is my current all time favortive. I’d pay $150 over and over again! The bold cinnamon and sugar cookie notes hit just right! Snickerdoodle cookies in a bottle! Come on… does it get much better? -
As this bottle has opened up it has become more and more aware to me that the tasting features are phenomenal. I get lots of ‘pure’ floral notes on the nose and the front of the palate! Hints of rose water as well as some lavender white tea. The whisky is very rich on the mid-palate; which is where I find a sweet raw honey flavor as well as some hints of honeydew melon! A suggestion of smoke, oak, and sherry finish this whisky out making for a gentle and pleasant finish.

Russell's Reserve 13 Year Bourbon (2022 Release)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 23, 2023 (edited August 4, 2023)Russell’s 13 year has loads of depth. Up front I’m getting loads of fruit. Some deep hints of moon drop grapes as well as blueberries. The oak is huge as well.. For me this has the perfect balance of bitter tannins and sweet oak. There is a light touxh of that classic Wild Turkey funk that comes through as you continue into sip three/four. The finish is mighty and deep.. big smokey oak lingers for a great deal of time. -
A large ice cube really brings the complexity out of this bourbon. On the front of the palate I’m gettling loads of sugar glazed kettle corn. The mid-palate is where the fruit shines: hints of red grapes and black cherries. On the finish there’s some cereal grain, deep oak, and a mixture of baking spices!

(Remembering all Single Barrel bourbon offerings can vary) …Personally I am gettling loads of tobacco throughout the entire palate and sweet cherrywood oak on the finish! That is almost all I get outside of the quenessiential notes of vanilla and caramel. I trully wish I had a cigar to pair with this becuase that pairing would be magical! Not a bad bourbon at all.

Interesting enough. This is sweet and a bit tart all together! I like the viscosity level it brings. I’m getting some faint floral notes: reminds me potentially of rose/orange water. Its paired with a balanced mind-palate of vanilla, frosted flakes, and hints of buttercream. The finish is wild.. that tartness comes in. Not to be to weird, but theres a tart orange and grapefruit presence here along with some faint baking spices.

Balvenie The Sweet Toast of American Oak 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed March 27, 2023Funny enough this variation drinks more like a peated bourbon. It’s an excellent entry for someone who wants to venture into the scotch whisk(e)y world! You get those classic notes of sweet oak, vanilla, and caramel! But you also get strong notes of prunes and milke chocolate covered raisins. The finish is totally scotch…There is a sea salt and seaweed presence that’s hard to dismiss.
