Tastes

Nose: Gentle brine notes and very soft smoke. Dried fruit and malt sweetness with a pepper kick. Palate: Rich fruits with a slight ashy and mineral background. The Talisker pepper note pulls through. Finish: Slightly drying smoke, with brine, pepper and some fruit. The cognac casks seem to tame the Talisker smoke and pepper, but add a fruitier note without it becoming too sweet. 7.5/10

I still get quite a lot of lactic funk and some sweet hay, but after leaving the bottle for nearly a year, the unpleasant farmyard notes seem to have mellowed. It’s still somewhat of an acquired taste - I doubt this will ever be one of my favourite whiskies - but I don’t actively dislike it now. 3.25/5

Nose: Peat, nutty, medicinal Palate: Medicinal notes, ash, burnt toffee Finish: Oak spice, white pepper This has a bit of an unusual taste and I’d probably enjoy it more if it was slightly sweeter 6.5/10

Nose: Roasted nuts, peat Palate: Pancakes, vanilla pod, iodine Finish: Honey, coastal salinity, bonfire embers Quite sweet and smoky but not as tasty as Quarter Cask 7/10

Nose: Smoke, seaside minerals, vanilla Palate: Ash, fudge, butter chocolate, peat Finish: Vanilla, peat, chilli Better than Laphroaig 10 but not as tasty as Quarter Cask 7/10

Nose: Toasted oak, pears Palate: Roast chestnuts, honey, black pepper, red apple Finish: Roast chestnuts, red chilli flakes Fruity and spicy, not getting much smoke 6.5/10

Nose: Jam, biscuits, pear Palate: Dried cherry, cask char, cloves, brown sugar Finish: Bonfire embers, jam, peat This is sweeter and smokier than PC10. Really tasty. 8/10

Nose: Cinnamon, clove, vanilla, toffee Palate: Coffee bean, honey, black pepper, faint herbal notes Finish: Brown sugar, nutmeg, tobacco Really tasty, bolder and more savoury than Double Oaked 8/10
