Reviewed January 5, 2023Nose: Sea air, honey Palate: Brown sugar, anise, pepper, hint of peat smoke Finish: Peppery and coastal with a hint of peat smoke A good whisky but I prefer the smoky, citrus and maritime notes of Caol Ila 12 Year Old 6.5/10 -
Caol Ila 2008 Distillers Edition Release (Bottled 2020)
Peated Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed January 1, 2023 (edited January 12, 2023)Nose: Light citrus, hint of smoke Palate: Fresh, fruity flavours - citrus and white grape. Light peat smoke Finish: Soft smoke, slight pepper prickliness The moscatel influence is very subtle, this just tastes slightly fruitier than the 12 Year Old Caol Ila (which I really enjoy). 7.5/1064.95 GBP per Bottle -

Croftengea 14 Year Old Batch 3 (That Boutique-y Whisky Company)
Single Malt — Highland, Scotland
Reviewed December 28, 2022Nose: Lightly smoky, maybe a hint of apple Palate: A bit of apple sweetness and gentle smoke. This is really delicate. Finish: Short finish with apple and a bit of peppery heat. This was less smoky and more delicate than I’d expected. I assumed it would have a bit more bite for the proof but maybe the age has softened it. 6/10 -
Croftengea 10 Year Old 2006 (cask 5024) - The Cooper's Choice (The Vintage Malt Whisky Co.)
Peated Single Malt — Highland, Scotland
Reviewed December 28, 2022Nose: Pepper, subtle smoke, caramel Palate: Smoked meats, pepper, slight oiliness Finish: Lingering smoke I really like this even though I don’t get much complexity from it. 6.5/10 -
Chamarel Peated Whisky Cask Finish Pure Cane Rum
Rhum Agricole Vieux — Mauritius
Reviewed December 27, 2022 (edited August 22, 2023)Nose: A subtle smokiness with rich, dark fruits. Palate: This is like a really rich fruit cake - lots of baking spices and fruit - with bits that have an almost burnt taste. It’s more rich than sweet. Finish: Subtle smoke with fruit cake and oak. This is delicious and my favourite rum so far. I’d love to know where the whisky casks are from - I’d guess they previously held Highland or peated Speyside whisky as the smoke is softer and doesn’t seem to add any medicinal notes that I often get from Islays. 8.5/10
