Tastes

Nose: Peat, chocolate, treacle Palate: Baking spices, cocoa, wood, baked apples Finish: Burnt toast, black pepper, sea spray Tastes less sweet and smoky than Lagavulin 16 but still delicious in a different way. 8/10

Nose: Peat, vanilla, baking spices Palate: Smoke, sea salt, coffee, baking spices, dates Finish: Smoke, cacao, black pepper This is richer and sweeter than the 16 year old, but the smoke and peat are slightly dialled back. 8/10

Nose: Peat, white wine, hint of sweet hat Palate: Apricot, ginger, honey, funky farmyard notes, hint of mineral Finish: Minerals, lactic funk I just can’t get past the farmyard notes. I don’t get them in any Port Charlottes I’ve tried but they just seem to overpower this. I wish it tasted as good as it smells. 5.5/10

Nose: Rosemary, kippers, lemon, vanilla pod Palate: Citrus, vanilla, smoked barley Finish: Brown sugar, poached pear, hint of smoke The smoke is more subtle than Caol Ila 12 Year Old, but the taste is more complex 8/10

Nose: Peat, citrus, hint of aniseed Palate: Citrus, peat, smoked mackerel Finish: Salt, marmalade, seaweed Really good, has that delicious citrus and coastal taste that I love in Caol Ila 8.5/10

Nose: Coffee, malt, praline Palate: Coffee, malt, maple, pecan, oak Finish: Cacao, pepper Rich, coffee maltiness. 7.5/10

Nose: Honey, oak, burnt sugar Palate: Vanilla, baking spices, barrel char, cocoa, black pepper Finish: Honey, oak, black pepper This is rich, spicy and quite complex. 7.5/10

Nose: Caramel, brown sugar, hint of corn Palate: Butterscotch, barrel char, raisins, cinnamon Finish: Butterscotch, crème brûlée, cinnamon Sweet, more complex than the regular Four Grain but could do with aging a bit more 6.5/10

Nose: Corn, caramel, oak Palate: Fruit, syrup, cherry, vanilla Finish: Caramel, fruit, vanilla A decent bourbon, but could do with a slightly higher proof 5.5/10

Nose: Salt, toffee, spices, dried fruit, honey Palate: Nuts, oak, salted caramel, sticky toffee pudding Finish: Mixed spices, sherry, nuts, hint of leather Rich, decadent, smooth 8/10
