Johnnie Walker Double Black
Blended — Scotland
Reviewed February 12, 2016 (edited February 26, 2016)Treated myself to this for my birthday, I don't normally go for Blended Scotch but, because of a recommendation from this app, I decided to try it. At first, I didn't like it, but then decided it was one of the nicest blendeds I've had. It's very smokey and leathery, with subtle tastes of vanilla and heavy cream, and a very smokey nose. The flavor and after-taste is very sweet, smokey, and very peaty... which is probably why I fell for it! -
Tres Generaciones Añejo Tequila
Tequila Añejo — Tequila Valley, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed January 30, 2016The first Anejo Tequila I tried. It's been many years but I remember it reminding me of brandy and it being good, better than most tequilas I had at that point. My father shared it with me and I was... quite young. My father was a gourmet cook and new a great deal about wine, that's how he brought me up. Next time I grab a bottle, I'll do a more helpful review. -
This, so far, is the finest whiskey I have ever had. If you've ever raked your leaves long after the top layer dried and the bottom began to rot, thrown them in a fire and thought "Hmm, smells so good I wish I could taste it!," this is the way to do that! Very earthy, smokey, rich, and oily. Flavors of wood, leather, caramel, toffee, and maple syrup, some subtle, others pronounced. It's been awhile but I think it also had flavors of black cherry and raisins. It smells as Lapsang Souchong tea does, tastes of it as well. The finish is caramelly, smokey, woodsy, and earthy. Drink straight in either a brandy snifter or a single-malt tulip glass, if you add ice or water, it brings out such an overpowering flavor of iodine and leather that you miss the deliciousness of this whiskey.

It's a nice inexpensive Irish whiskey with the signature smokey peatiness. It is also fairly weak (delicate may be a nicer word). Other whiskies in this price range are probably better for Irish Whiskey enthusiasts, however, if you're trying to introduce Irish Whiskey to someone who's never tried it, the mild flavour, attractive traditionally shaped bottle, fancy gold label with the cute little dog picture, would be a great choice to introduce it!
