Booker's Bourbon Batch 2015-01 "Big Man, Small Batch"
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 10, 2015 (edited December 3, 2015)Hell of a boubon. Have to disagree with distiller and express a slight preference for the center cut - less exciting on the nose but the finish is long and luxurious. That said, like the four roses private selection obsq and obsk i've bern enjoying this year, this is allllll about the bourbon - a bit sweet up front, a cask strength punch in the throat, a long luxurious landing. Great stuff, loving this bookers limited release program these are a effing steal at $60 -
Woodford Reserve Straight Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 6, 2015 (edited February 23, 2016)Too little rye in the bill, imho. Did it both neat and in a manhattan and just too soft. Nice enough bourbon, middle tier rye. -
Highland Park 18 Year
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed November 6, 2015 (edited December 26, 2015)All neat all the way. Nose is oceany with a lot of tang. notes go from an initial hit of honey to a lot of peaty tang to a long, slow smoked meat. Not a ton of burn, extremely drinkable. I've given up on having a favorite that is "limited edition" (or worse gone for ever... ahem... nikka...), so I think I can call this my favorite scotch without hesitation. Not cheap but not bank-breaking compared to other whiskey's half as good as this, and my local non-specialty store has a few bottles tucked to sell me at retail in the event of a scotch related dinner party emergency. -
Strong the very slow and mellow. The peat's there, but it's a tiny bit more backgrounded than either the older or younger. Definitely love the bit of seaweed at the end. I think I give the 2014 and 2015 distiller's editions a slight edge (since they're the same price) but this is my go to everyday whiskey (and hence the fact that I have no money).

Willett Pot Still Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 3, 2015 (edited April 24, 2018)For some reason i get a ton of peanut butter. Subtle, not a lot of aftertaste but easy to drink -
This is a really great batch - as good or even better than 2015-01 imho. Wonderful, maple and nutty nose that gives way to strong barrel strength whiskey smell. I get toasted nuts with a bit of vanilla and dried apples; then a quick punch of alchohol that fades into a long cinnamon and clove aftertaste. very low burn for something this high ABV, so I drink this one neat which is saying a LOT (2015-01 and four roses private selection OBSQ are two other barrel strength faves and both absolutely require some water). Considering purchasing a case of this before it's gone.

Laphroaig Càirdeas 200th Anniversary Edition
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed October 28, 2015 (edited April 24, 2018)Peat bomb is the right phrase. Strong nose, strong upfront, strong finish. 3x ice cubes takes this to a wonderful place, neats a bit too much for me...
