Old Forester Birthday Bourbon 2019
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 16, 2020 (edited December 23, 2022)The nose is very unique almost perfume like if somebody made a raisin and vanilla perfume . Have not had this nose in really any bourbons for the most part and am stuck just smelling it intrigued! I do get that cookie dough vibe almost the same as the regular line of old forester line where it has almost that fake store bought sugar cookie vibe to it with the frosting vibes you’d get at Kroger’s or Albertsons. The nose does hunt at a tad bit of barrel char and smoke or it’s that I honestly didn’t clean out my glencairn enough after my sample of Amrut yesterday. I’m honestly not entirely sure but I felt I did a pretty good job! The palate should offer some more notes immediately I’m hit with citrus lots of citrus with barrel char my first intial response is damnnnn I can’t get another replacement for this ! It has all the oak spice it promised with loads of orange citrus zest and a nice oaky tannic with citrus vibe while also not being too bitter and tannic’-ey . The finish is more of the same and I’m sitting here contemplating whether or not I should spend the money people ask secondary for another..... Overall I’d give this a 95/100 and if my scoring so far is correct that’s the highest so far! I’ve had my fair share of highly allocated bourbons and ryes yet this has taken the cake so far! I hate that honestly I’m going to spend about $300 or so when my stimulus check comes in because it’s worth it! Phenomenal pour and phenomenal job by them! Best OFBB by far I’ve had! -

The palate is fruit forward yet again with touches of oak . Very rich and full bodied The finish has nice hints of pepper that last throughout while also almost a creaminess to it Overall I’d give this a 88-100 and defintely will be looking for more! A must have in my collection for the price!38.99 USD per Bottle -

Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series 2019 RC6
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 1, 2020 (edited February 24, 2020)Definitely get some unripe banana on the nose and maybe caramel or vanilla not entirely sure.... Decent legs nothing this it sticks for a little while on the glass. On the palate I get some sweet spice maybe it’s caramel mixed with black pepper? Really sweet more than I expected but not in a bad way! Very pleasant and easy to sip on! Drinks way below it’s proof. The finish is sweet and gentle almost feels like I’m not drinking bourbon . Over I enjoy this a lot more than I thought! Need to go back to my liquor store and buy another 😅 I’d give this an 88 -

Balcones Texas Pot Still Bourbon
Bourbon — Texas, USA
Reviewed November 19, 2019 (edited January 3, 2020)Actually surprisingly good! Almost get a sweet like almond candy or a walnut nutty type of candy vibe on the palate ! The nose I kind of a honey and grass /earthy mixture that reeks of a pot still ! Honestly I was probably more harsh on Balcones at first when I started getting into whiskeys and bourbons but a few of their lines have changed my mind! Such a rapid difference between most distillery’s and at this point idk if they can be considered just a crappy craft distillery.... I’ve had a few store picks and all have been sublime! From the DFWWC pic to just the plain pot still . This distillery is slept on but won’t continue to be! I’ll happily buy pot still for $30 with no regrets for that change of pace But you’re either gonna love their stuff or hate it 86/100 -
So I’ve been drinking this off and on usually when on sale but felt the need to review it on here. Nose: so upfront there’s a little bit of ethanol that kind of helps keep the fact that you’re sipping a 60%+ bourbon in mind. When pushing past that I get hints of almost orange pledge or peels with after hints of a sweeter scent maybe hints of honey ? Palate: so surprisingly there’s hardly any burn it’s more orange , rye spice and Caramel. The finish is nice and long but gentle nothing too too harsh for the proof but you’ll taste it on the exhale for a few breathes for sure. Overall I always usually take price into account with overall product because I rarely spend over $60 on a bottle unless I KNOW it’s worth it! This is a solid 86 given price account and flavor profile ! It’s affordable, packed full of flavor and always available! I prefer rare breed over this but not always and sometimes this hits the spot better!if never tried is solidly recommend !45.99 USD per Bottle
