Pours a beautiful amber and produces multiple slow running legs in a standard Glencairn. On yhe nose there is dark fruit and baking spice with a hint of graham crackers. On the palate the rye pepper comes through, but doesn’t overpower the fruit and sweetness from the nose. This is a very nice sipping rye.

Jim Beam Winter Reserve
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 12, 2024 (edited November 15, 2024)On the nose the vanilla is obvious. Otherwise it is just typical Beam bourbon. On the palate, the vanilla is overwhelmed by the cinnamon. Suntory claims both the vanilla and cinnamon are natural byproducts of the second barreling. It my be true with the vanilla, but it’s hard to believe the cinnamon is “natural“. This drinks like Fireball with a bit of added vanilla. It isn’t unpleasant, but a bit disappointing with all the hype. Fireball drinkers will probably like this one, other than the $11.00 price difference.26.99 USD per BottleVirginia ABC -
Virginia Distillery Co. Port Cask Finished Virginia-Highland Whisky
Blended Malt — Multiple Countries
Reviewed October 24, 2024Bought a 50 ml for $4.99 at VA ABC. Glad I didn’t have to suffer through more of this. On the nose there is young whisky with just a hint of Port. Those notes carry through to the palate. There are faint hints of Port, but totally overshadowed by the immature ethanol burn that exceeds the 92 proof point.39.99 USD per BottleVirginia ABC -
Early Times Kentucky Whisky
Blended American Whiskey — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 17, 2024 (edited November 13, 2024)It doesn’t meet the requirements to be called “bourbon”. It is a stretch to even call it “whiskey”. Against my better judgement, I decided to try an ice cube to “enhance” the flavor. All it did was amplify the medicinal, chemical notes. My only positive is I purchased a 375 ml at $6.79, but I may end up pouring some of it down the drain.11.99 USD per BottleVirginia ABC -
Benchmark Full Proof Bourbon (125 Proof)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 17, 2024 (edited November 13, 2024)Poured in a Glencairn and allowed to open up before tasting. Strong ethanol on the nose that mellows with hints of dark red cherry, vanilla and caramel as it opens up. The ethanol hits the palate first, but is quickly mellowed somewhat by the caramel, vanilla and dried fruit. Long finish with dark cherry and vanilla notes to go along woth the heat. Make no mistake this is not a shooter. It drinks hot, but not 62.5% hot. And the heat is nicely balanced with the aforementioned flavors, making this a pleasant neat sipper.27.99 USD per BottleVirginia ABC -
Exotico Tequila Reposado
Tequila Reposado — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed September 3, 2024 (edited September 24, 2024)On the nose the is vanilla, agave sweetness and just a slight hint of oak. On the palate the oak virtually disappears but the sweetness is dominant. There is a bit of stone fruit and a little young tequila alcohol burn. The aftertaste is alcohol forwatd, but not completely uncomfortable. All in all for a 100% agave Tequila from the Jalisco region, this is an enjoyable sipper with good bang for the buck. That being said, it is more a mixing Reposado than sipper.24.99 USD per BottleVirginia ABC -
Appleton Estate 8 Year Reserve Rum
Aged Rum — Jamaica
Reviewed August 27, 2024 (edited November 13, 2024)The typical Appleton flavor notes of molasses and overripe fruit are more pronounced than in Signature, formerly known as VX, but not as smooth as Appleton Estate 12 Year Rare Casks, formerly known as Rare Blend 12 Year. The Appleton Estate 8 Year Reserve is a nicer sipper than Signature but, contrary to what many reviewers might say, doesn’t live up to the 12 year. -
1942 pours lighter than most Anejos. In a Glencairn, it produces viscous legs that seem to cling to the sides of the glass. On the nose there hints of agave, vanilla and oak. On the palate the vanilla takes center stage, with the vanilla as the co-star and the oak taking a minor role. There is just enough tequila heat to let you know this is an adult beverage. It is very good, but I‘m not sure the high price is completely justified. I purchased a 50 ml “mini“, priced at $14.99.199.99 USD per BottleVirginia ABC

Therevis an unexpected sweetnes on the nose, almost candy-like but with s hint of ethanol. On the palate the sweetnes is nicely blended with typicsl OGD dpice from the high rye mashbill. There is an unmistakable alcohol burn, but far less than one would expect with 57% ABV. I believe this will take a permanent spot on my liquor shelf, right beside OGD BiB.29.99 USD per Bottle
