Slight aroma of banana bread overshadowed by the distinct smell of ethanol. Along with the banana bread, there is a bit of rye spiciness on the tongue; but both are overshadowed by young whiskey alcohol burn. You may be able to strip the finish off your old liquor cabinet with this juice. There are better ryes, at cheaper prices. Gentleman Jack remains the only JD product I would recommend to a friend.

Picked this one up at Senor Frog’s in Nassau. Aged 5 years, young for a Caribbean rum, in bourbon casks. The color is quite bourbon-like and there are definite bourbon notes, followed by rum sweetness. This will pass as a sipper, but would be better as a mixer.

The last stop on my dark rum tour at Red Frog Pub on the Carnival Sunshine. This is a very good sipper, with a noticeable hint of citrus. Will definitely revisit this one, but it won’t replace Appleton Reserve 12 as my favorite dark rum.

Very popular straight rye that doesn’t quite live up to it’s price. Nice sipping rye, with a good deal of peppery spice, but there are better available for less $$

Another of my Carnival Sunshine, Red Frog Pub flight crew. This is the best Bacardi I have ever tasted.

Another from my cruise ship rum exploration. This was the best of my first flight, and possibly best overall. Still didn’t supplant Appleton Reserve 12 as my favorite rum.

Tried this one in a Dark Rum Flight, at Red Frog Pub, on the Carnival Sunshine. Nice dark sipping rum that I will probably revisit in the future.

Tried this in a Dark Rum Flight, at Red Frog Pub, on the Carnival Sunshine. Of the eight rums I tried, in two separate flights, this was the worse. It has the typical dark rum sweetness, but taste very medicinal. It might make a good Cuba Libre, but falls far short of being called a sipping rum.

Tried this in a Dark Rum Flight, at Red Frog Pub, on the Carnival Sunshine. Not a bad pour, but nothing really special about it. I’d drink this one again, but prefer Appleton Reserve 12.

Had this in a Dark Rum Flight, at Red Frog Pub, on the Carnival Sunshine. This, like Brugal 1888, is not bad. I would definitely drink it again. But I have yet found any rum to surpass my favorite Appleton Reserve 12.
