Treated myself. Nose: sweet, some vanilla and honey, very inviting with good maltiness and fruitiness Palate: more honey, mix of spices such as clove, good mix of light fruit like pear and apple. Good mouth feel overall Finish: more maltiness with nuttiness, surprisingly smooth for a 100 proof Overall, very good as I expected with Bruichladdich but not convinced it's worth the price166.0 USD per Bottle

Kura The Whisky Pure Malt Japanese Rum Cask Finish
Blended Malt — Okinawa , Japan
Reviewed March 23, 2022 (edited May 6, 2022)I'm just not getting a lot from this one. The nose is light, a little sweet and fruity. That goes through to the taste as well. It's all just too quiet and light for my tastes. I do find it very smooth and easy to drink though. -
An Islay, through and through. Nose is smoke with a touch of fruit on the end with a bit of sea salt. The taste is more of the great smoke/peat with lots of pepper. It's got a great, deep earthy taste to go along with those nose as well. Above all, this is an intensely flavored Scotch and I don't think it's something all would like. But for fans of big, full, peaty Scotches, this would be hard to beat. At 57% abv, it's got some bite in the finish but honestly, it's not too bad, owing to how well this Scotch is balanced. I'm not one to usually add water but this one can take it and opens up more of the pepper and sea salt. Overall, a big, bold examplar of Islay Scotch.

Shieldaig 18 Year Speyside Single Malt
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed February 26, 2021 (edited November 9, 2021)I really like this one. Cherry flavors, fairly smooth, taste a lot like a Dr Pepper in whiskey form. -
Nose: Banana, light smoke, lightly floral, touch of sweet grass Taste: honey and peated smoke. Cereal/grains with touches of bitter chocolate Finish: Bottled at 100 proof so there's some bite, light peat taste, a bit tartness. Overall, really interesting. There's a lot going on and the flavors change if you give it just a little time. If this is an indication, Indian whiskies are worth keeping an eye on.

Port Charlotte 10 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed January 16, 2021 (edited August 29, 2021)Nose: smoke, ocean air, followed by caramel and hints of lemon and other citrus. Everything is in balance and inviting, the smoke is always there but never overpowering. Palate: Mix of oak and florals with touches of salt and iodine, all wrapped in peated smokiness. At the very tail end there hints of vanilla and cereal grains. Even at 100 proof, it's easy and smooth to drink. Finish: Bright salt and pepper with touches of candy, all ending with just a touch more of the smoke. Out of all whiskies I've had, the Port Charlotte line would be my go to. The peat is always present while allowing all the other flavors to be tasted and enjoyed. It's wonderfully balanced. I could drink it all the time. It doesn't hurt that Bruichladdich is doing things right by becoming a certified B Corporation and taking steps to have the entirety of the production process done on Islay, which is awesome. -
