Glen Fohdry Dublaich American Oak Cask Finish
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 24, 2019 -
A bit of a one note; brown sugar and caramel nose with cereal notes and peat. On the palate, no real change. The flavor is okay, but just okay. It isn’t particularly balanced well. The peat has a distinct flavor, reminiscent of Springbank, but not as much character. For a 50% abv, it should have had more of a kick. Adding water opened nothing but a hint of citrus and grassy notes, but I really had to search for that.

Laphroaig Triple Wood
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed October 5, 2018 (edited October 21, 2024)If you are fond of the classic flavors of Laphroaig, you need to check out their triple wood offering. Same base of strong peat and smoke, but delicious savory notes of fruit and complex sweetness rock like an undercurrent on the palate. The taste has a wonderfully long finish, just leaving you swimming in that Islay Smoke Fog of flavor bliss. Wonderful Offering. -
Absolutely underrated! This carries the delicious, savory smoke and peat of an Islay, with deep, complex sweet notes along for the ride. The feel is a bit oily on the palate, and carries a mild, ghostly brine — just enough to remind you of its origin. This is an incredible Scotch, and well underrated. Maybe I should keep that a secret! Whoops!
