Tastes

This is a tough one to rate; I fall right between a three and a four. It is a good drink, and has plenty of depth, but lacks personality here. It tries to make everyone happy with tasting notes across the board. As a result, it is a flavorful, but forgetful dram.

Strong flavors here. A sweetness that isn't cloying, and fruity notes that are balanced by soft spice and peat make this my favorite Japanese whisky.

A Very good dram of Islay here, but simply lacks conviction. It is perhaps best for those who want to enjoy the bold flavors of Islay in a tamed form. For my taste, it just falls flatter than its neighbors and remains mediocre.

Absolutely complex and delicious. Heavy peat, so not for the faint of heart. This is second for me only to Lagavulin 16. The peat here is not as well balanced with the fruit and sweet notes, but there is a great seashore invocation with salt and brine appearing through the oily texture. Great winter drinking!

Sweet sherry, dry honey arrival, then honey takes over with grassy notes appearing at the finish. The final note is a bit harsh and sharp. Be sure to be liberal with water for this strong whisky to enjoy the most out of it.

I am in love with this incredible whisky. This was the first time I could taste a deliciously balanced peaty whisky. Briney undertones and great depth of flavors. A real classic.

Very good, complex whisky. I love all the flavors going on here. The only criticism I have, and it may sound odd, but it almost feels overly engineered. It doesn't grab me in any single way but tries to be strong in so many areas that it fights with itself for an identity.

Love, love, love this Scotch. Complex, entertaining and surprising, this is a delicious work of art.
