Elijah Craig 18 Year Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 10, 2020 (edited June 30, 2021)The color is a rich, reddish amber and is ever so oily on the glass. The nose is immediately full of charred oak, buttery vanilla, chocolate, cherry, honey and rounds off with subtle brown sugar and baking spices. The palate is very oak forward that is not too dry and not too oily, filling the mouth with chocolate, vanilla and a great balance of baking spices. The cherry is very toned down on the palate, as is the sweetness that is wonderfully under control. The finish is medium long with oak still filling the mouth with a simple and lovely creamy finish. -
Untitled Bourbon Whiskey Hazmat Barrel 13
Bourbon — Indiana, USA
Reviewed October 24, 2020 (edited February 20, 2021)The color is a very deep and glowing amber that is absolutely beautiful. Thick streaks of oil can easily be coaxed out of the bourbon with each move. The nose is very strong with charred oak, cherry, leather, baking spices and touches of vanilla, caramel, cocoa, apple and sawdust rounding it out. There is an awful lot going on with the palate but it is all so nicely balanced that you can get lost in nosing this bourbon. More so, it doesn’t make you think hazmat. It reminds you of a dusty bourbon. The palate is very dry but works it’s way all throughout the mouth. Oak, leather and green apple fill the mouth immediately with cherry backing it up. The creamy notes come intertwined with healthy helping of sharp baking spices to give you a reminder of the proof of this bourbon. The finish is medium long with the flavors sticking to the corners of your mouth while you still feel the dryness. Cinnamon and oak lingers while you crave the next sip. This whiskey was picked by Prav Saraff and is astounding. Sold only in 375ml bottles due to it being such a short barrel leaves you feeling sad there is so little. Truly a masterpiece. -
Rossville Union Straight Rye Whiskey Bottled in Bond Prav Saraff pick
Rye — Indiana, USA
Reviewed October 23, 2020 (edited June 10, 2021)The nose is immediately rye, but a mix of both floral and sweet. Green apple comes out along with charred oak, as does vanilla sweet cream and hints of black pepper and brown sugar. The palate is initially gentle with the rye spiciness building up into a pleasantly tame experience along with a slightly oily mouthfeel. Charred oak and pepper follow while the vanilla and brown sugar stay pretty mild. The flavors mostly stay around the front of the mouth and middle of the tongue, but come together a very well balanced way making for a lovely rye. The finish is medium with a lingering taste of rye and black pepper, while oak and vanilla fade behind it. -
George Dickel 11 Year Bottled in Bond Tennessee Whisky (Fall 2008)
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed October 22, 2020 (edited December 22, 2020)The color is a vibrant amber for a whiskey that doesn’t hesitate to leave a generous curtain of oils with every movement of the glass. The nose starts with charred oak, vanilla, creme brûlée and candied pecans. They nicely interact with each other while on subsequent nosing, floral rye and ripe fruit come out. The palate the nuttiness carries over strongly as does a pleasant helping of oak. It is slightly oily but not chewy, as well as being very smooth on the palate overall. The creamy notes follow as does hints of salt and pepper. The finish is slightly medicinal while being medium length with a lingering spiciness that sticks to the back of the mouth as the creamy notes fade. -
Old Forester 150th Anniversary Bourbon (Batch 01)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 18, 2020 (edited February 27, 2021)The color is dark amber with a touch of gold that almost glows. It leaves a ring of oil around the glass, but takes a bit to coax out some legs. The nose greats you with charred oak mixed with a touch of cherry, opening up to molasses, vanilla, strong baking spices and a touch of floral rye. The palate is very dry but makes it’s way to all corners of the mouth filling it with the strong baking spices, cherry and oak. As the mouth tingles, the sweeter and creamier notes from the nose appear but can’t do much to counteract the spiciness. The spices do seem more tamed with further sips, giving you a strong taste of cinnamon and cherry in an almost bitter mixture, but not exactly off putting. The finish is medium with oak and cherry resonating in the mouth in a way that leaves you craving for a sweeter note to balance it. The spiciness keeps the mouth tingling for a while in an overall experience that leaves you desiring a bit more. -
Old Elk Loch & K(e)y Phase 2 wheated bourbon
Bourbon — Indiana, USA
Reviewed September 27, 2020 (edited April 26, 2022)The color is dull, deep brownish gold leaving thick legs all over the glass with every movement. The nose starts with ripe fruit, charred oak, dark chocolate, banana and cooked brown sugar. The palate is soft and gentle while being oily and chewy, slowly working it’s way to the corners of the mouth leaving it dry. Baking spice builds up in the middle of the palate with a helping of cinnamon and allspice, as an easy wave of fruity creaminess follows along with charred oak. The finish is medium long and dry with the mouth staying tingling from the baking spices with lingering charred oak, while the fruity and creamy notes gently fade, but aren’t too far away. -
Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 15, 2020 (edited April 2, 2021)The color is a very deep, very dark amber that only leaves a thin coating of oil on the glass with the occasional leg coming down. The nose gives you the hint of typical Elijah Craig but you are greeted up front with strong, charred oak. That takes you into cherry, toasted marshmallow, vanilla, graham cracker, bacon fat and touches of burnt brown sugar and caramel. The palate has a semi rich mouthfeel, not quite hitting the corners of the mouth. It starts off with bacon fat and barrel char, before moving into vanilla and a palate that generally lacks the complexity of the nose. The finish is medium with lingering charred oak, vanilla and burn brown sugar. It fades quicker than you would want and leaves you desiring a bit more.50.0 USD per Bottle -
The only thing to say about this whiskey is that it is not good. It tastes like a very unaged whiskey that had bitter, malt whiskey added to it. You can definitely tell it spent the time in the single malt casks, but it is not a flavor profile that should be added to rye, at least not this way. It smells bitter, tastes bitter and you quickly want to forget the finish.

Ezra Brooks Distiller's Collection Barrel 7015865
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 15, 2020The color is brownish gold, with oil that just slightly leaves a coating on the glass. The nose starts off spicy with roasted peanuts, baking spices, charred oak and the slightest hints of vanilla. The palate is slightly dry and oily, carrying forward to roasted peanut and spiciness, with a sweet, creamy fruitiness that balances it out nicely. Overall, the palate comes all together nicely in one wave of flavor, continuing to balance itself out as the whiskey breathes and begins to open up. The finish is medium and slightly short, with the spice quickly fading and sweet and creaminess fading much too quickly.35.0 USD per Bottle -
Old Forester Birthday Bourbon 2020
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 10, 2020 (edited October 11, 2020)The color is a deep and glowing amber, leaving a thin veil of oil on every part of the glass that it touches. The palate is very layered and starts with a big mix of oak, cherry that almost has a mint quality, bacon, buttered toast, vanilla and a hint of grass. There is definitely a lot to explore on the nose with this bourbon and it only gets better the longer it can sit and breathe. The palate is something chewy and starts immediately with oak that then transforms into cherry as the whiskey makes its way into the furthest corners of the mouth brining a wonderful wave of vanilla with it. There is slight wave of pepper that quickly intensifies but never to a point that takes away from the overall smoothness. There are sweet touches of brown sugar and the buttered toast that support the overall palate, making this bourbon taste almost like a hearty breakfast. The finish is medium with lingering oak, cherry and cinnamon, while the sweeter notes of vanilla and brown sugar fade behind them. This bourbon has an incredible nose and palate, but those are not quite backed up by the finish which is sadly not long enough and a bit of a let down. After a couple minutes, it does leave you with a dull, cinnamon aftertaste which ever so slightly takes away from how enjoyable this was to sip on.
