Nose: lots of sweet cinnamon right away, vanilla cake, brown sugar, possibly maraschino cherries? Palate: oak, more vanilla cake, sweet caramel, nutmeg, yep definitely lots of maraschino cherries, a hint of tart fruit Finish: big oak flavor dominates, caramel, wet tobacco and a lingering of that maraschino cherry flavor I enjoy so much I have both the 1920 and 1897 yet to open so I will reserve judgement but this does not seem to lack for anything with it's lower proof, maybe it's the scotch drinker in me that often drinks below 50% abv. The mouth feel is excellent and the flavors are bold yet complex. If it was not so limited around me I would always have a bottle.

GlenDronach Original 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 4, 2021 (edited December 24, 2021)Nose: ginger, chocolate, ripe dark fruits and a but of tobacco Palate: oak, vanilla, dark fruits, spicy cinnamon, and what is definitely raisins Finish: slightly bitter oak, light fruit, nuttiness and with this glass autumn leaves. Short but pleasant. Definitely worth the price for a sherried scotch, it's not quite a Sherry bomb but it hits all the right notes. I will say it evolves with time, the first pour is not the same as halfway through the bottle60.0 USD per Bottle -
Russell's Reserve 10 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 2, 2021 (edited December 21, 2021)Nose: big vanilla, oak, toffee a touch of cinnamon? Palate: a good bit of oak, more vanilla, caramel, baking spices, a hint of sweet mint. Finish: more oak, vanilla and caramel with some spicy rye. The finish is short but makes an impression. In a world of no age statement bourbon this stands out with the big oak flavors. While wt101 is a better "deal" and Russel's reserve single barrel is better whiskey, this has its place as an easy drinking bourbon with for a fair price.40.0 USD per Bottle -
Knob Creek Small Batch Bourbon (NAS)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 1, 2021 (edited January 19, 2022)Nose: ethanol, vanilla, brown sugar Palate: baking spices, vanilla, nutmeg, and that peanut goodness. Finish: a little ethanol, vanilla, oak, cinnamon, roasted peanuts. Good budget bourbon if you like or want to try the Jim beam peanut funk, a little heavy on the ethanol in the nose for 100 proof. Side by side the 9 year age stated is a better whiskey and was missed when the age statement went away.35.0 USD per Bottle -
Nose: iodine, campfire, peat, a hint of strawberry jam Palate: oaky vanilla, some maltiness, peat bog, brine and more campfire smoke Finish: peppery, another hint of strawberry jam, seawater, ashy cigar smoke that lingers Overall I prefer the 10 to this, the influence of the px casks is barely noticeable and this tastes younger and a bit harsher than the 10 year old but doesn't have the salty peat punch of the wee Beastie.54.0 USD per Bottle

Nose: brown sugar, oranges, molasses various sweet citrus and ethanol. Palate: kind of funky starts out with ethanol and a bitter funk I can't quite place continuing to sweet orange, more molasses and brown sugar Finish: molasses, citrus, peppery ethanol with an almost aspertame taste that lingers for longer than it's welcome. Could work in tiki cocktails with the citrus however this is not a rum to sip.

Nose: ethanol, grassy, a little herbal ginger Taste: more grain alcohol, citrus, melon, a hint of sweet fruits Finish: peppery dryness, grapefruit and something bitter I attribute to grain alcohol Overall better can be had for the price but it is drinkable neat or a decent mixer.32.0 USD per Bottle
